Hood dryer vs Shower cap type

I have heard that is best to use a hood type hair dryer over the shower cap type. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I have been using the shower cap type for over 20 + years, should I run out and buy a hood type and if so will any do?

If youve been using it for 20 years and it works for you, I would keep on using it. For me, it takes too long for my hair to dry. But I dont think that either one is more or less damaging, if that's what you meant...
