Just took out my braids after 3 months and wants a good home made conditioner which includes avocado. My hair is a little dry and needs some moisture. I am transition to natural and still have some relax hair

Any suggestion?

No suggestions other than adding avocado oil to your favorite DC.

FYI - avocado is protein as well as moisturizing so be careful if you are avoiding protein.

Avocados contain more protein than cow’s milk, about 2% per edible portion. A small avocado will provide more usable protein then a huge steak because cooked protein in meat is deranged and mostly unavailable to our liver, the organ which makes all of our body’s protein.

Avocado oil is excellent for the hair because the oil is rich in proteins, amino acids, and vitamins A,D,and E. What more can you ask for? The oil also acts as a humectant which means that it adds moisturize to the hair. Some have benefited from mashing up a ripe avocado and applying it to the hair as a deep conditioner. That is an honorable idea, but for me, it was a bit messy and I am not sure I received the same results as I would have if I would have simply used the oil with my favorite intense conditioner. If you do not have this oil in your hair arsenal I am definitely recommending it to you. Take a look at this video of a Ford Model who benefits from this wonderful fruit.

This is one of my FAVORITE DC's because its soooooo simple:yep:

Take a ripe Avocado and add three tablepoons of extra virgin olive oil to it throw it in the blender untill smooth and put it in your hair for at least 30 minutes. Your hair will come out sooo smooth supple and strong...its the best!!!

for a great moisturizing dc/pre-poo try blending:

avocado banana-milk puree:

2 bananas
1 cup coconut milk
1 avocado
1/2 cup extra virgin coconut oil
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup red palm

blend well with an emersion blender. (and i do mean well, otherwise you'll have little bits of fruit stuck in your hair) let this sit for 30 mins to an hour. rinse & no-poo or poo as usual. also with this particular recipe. I've found you can eat some -- it's goooood -- and use the rest on your hair. that way you'll get the benefits inside & out:)

So, I bought an avocado yesterday and wanted to know how to use it. I've read this and most of the other threads but I still have one question.....does it cause tangling? My hair tangles at the drop of water and I have to be careful.
Anyone?

so does anyone use the avocado as the last phase---> meaning you wash or co-wash then apply the avocado conditioner and just do a regular rinse?

I know this thread is crazy old, but I have got some avocado and cocount milk and I am anxious to see how I can use them together to dc this weekend

Blairx0 I SWEAR by avocado and coconut milk!!! I tell everyone who will listen that I KNOW that they are what got me where I am today. I would prepoo with them, EEVO, EECO, Honey, wheat germ oil and a few carrier oil. But I am 100% sure that those 2 made the biggest difference. My hair was dried and fried....after a few weeks I could see a difference and after few months my hair looked healthy.

So upset that I cant do it like I used to...having guacomole in your hair is not advised when chasing a toddler around! LOL

Good luck!

blackindia07 thanks for the reply! Did you just mix avocado and coconut milk with some carrier oils and DC until you were ready to rinse? I am not much for measuring so my plan was to whip them in a bowl until i scoop it on to my hair. Hope it works!

Blairx0 I actually used it as a prepoo. I didnt think rinsing would be enough to get all the oils out as I am very heavy handed. LOL I never measure anything. I just mixed it in the food processor, warm it up (because more often than not the coconut milk would come out of the fridge) and slap it on. I would leave it in as long as possible, sometimes overnight, but a minimum of 30 mins.

Over the years ive played with the recipe some, sometimes I would put mayo, I used garlic for a long time but I couldnt take the smell LOL, AVJ.... but like i said Im sure that avocado and coconut milk were the 2 most important ingredient.
