My mummy says that her mum used to use palm oil (fresh palm oil would be heated and cooled and then applied to the hair) or the mmanu aku I stated above. They had wooden combs and my grandmother whose hair was very long (I'm praying that gene surfaces in my gene pool soon) would usually do two ponytails and keep them plaited with threads. For shampoo, they used the black soap produced from burning and mixing the shaff gotten from palm oil processing with other ingredients. She said they also had other creams and stuff because her mum and dad worked in Fernando Po for a while.
