I am thinking about highlighting my hair again (it's been more than a year, and I cut out 90% of the color when I BC'd) and I'm curious about what companies you may have used in the past.

Also, if you are a fellow curly/kinky sistah, can you give any tips/ideas on how you did your own highlights? I was transistioning, and my hair was straight when I highlighted last time.

The first time I highlighted my hair was last summer and I just grabbed chunks and threw the color in. I used clairol I think but I can't remember for sure. This time I used some salon brand and I'm still pleased with the results.
The only tip I can think of is before even going in I suggest you think about how highlighted you want it. Like whether you want them really in your face or subtle. Also think about how many highlights you want. I went a little overboard this time so it almost looks like my whole head is colored at the top. But I don't care because I wanted the color to be seen. So I went heavy in the front and light in the back. HTH

Girl, I was about to ask the same question!

I want highlights, but I'm scared it's going to end up looking like some Bride of Frankenstein hot mess.

Right! When I did it before my hair was straight, and a lot easier to manage! Plus I wanted to see about other products...
