Hide Your Hair 2015

why are you leaving it in so long if you think there is a problem with your real hair? I hope it works out for you but I would be taking it out asap if it was my hair.
I agree. We are hiding our hair for health and length retention, so if you think either of those things are being compromised, jump in quick and get your hair back on track.

Keep us posted on how things go. @Fotchygirl

You make good points ladies, thank you for the advice. I will take out the weave today and leave the cornrows so that I can assess the situation and wash and deep condition my hair.

shortdub78 my hair is okay from what I can see but the hairline has definitely receded, and it was already fragile to start with. IDK if it's the infamous postpartum shedding since I have a 3 month old or the weave was tight after all. I will nurse the area with castor oil and continue taking my prenatal vitamins. I will undo the cornrows month end. When I go out I will just wear my wig.

Thanks divachyk.

Fotchygirl just be careful with wigs, weaves, cornrows and anything of the like. My sister was experiencing hair issues and continued down a path that eventually led to alopecia. So, if possible, take action now and give your hair rest.

So what is your sister doing about it? Is it reversible?

Fotchygirl She went to the dermatologist and was put on a steroid shot and steroid spray. The steroid spray is used throughout the week. The steroid shot was given in the scalp once a month for several months. This was to stimulate the scalp. After growth was detected, the shots were stopped. Reversible? No promises. Dermatologist feels she caught it early but just have to give it time and see what happens.

divachyk thanks for sharing about your sister and I'm sorry for what she is going through. I want to thank you ladies for encouraging me to take down the weave. So today I decided to take down these cornrows as well and what I discovered is horrific, I have so much buildup that my hair is matted in some areas. I guess even though I was only moisturizing it every 2-3 days I was still using a heavy hand. And so much hair came out when I was combing Which is abnormal to me.

I guess I'm abandoning weaves as a PS but don't know what to use anymore since my hairline is gone and my hair is not long enough to be in a nice bun. I can't take these setbacks anymore.

Fotchygirl my sister has only one style option - wigs. You might have to do the same. Wearing wigs seems less harsh than weaves because you have access to your hair. You might seek the help of a dermatologist as well in case you too need to be placed on steroid injections or sprays.

make sure you wash with a sulfate shampoo for a few washes to get your scalp back in order and to make sure you get rid of the buildup. Just put plaits or celie braids and don't go past a week washing and dc'ing your hair.

Oh no ladies, it's actually much, much worse now! I pre-pooed with conditioner mixed with amla oil. Then I rinsed it and everything was still fine. I then washed with Aussie Moist shampoo and all of a sudden my hair started dreading up at the back. I conditioned with John Frieda frizz ease, it dreaded up all over now. My baby is crying, I have to soothe him and my hair has just become a dreaded mess. I'm now thinking of asking my DH to cut my hair into a TWA. I honestly don't know where to start untangling this mess and I thought I had combed it really well.

All of the wigs I've tried are just too much. I used to LOVE wigs, but now I'm just like... ugh. Not sure what I am going to do to hide my hair now. :(

Currently wearing a upart w. Leave out i have 3 synthetic lace fronts on the way..and cant wait to get into them to give my leave out a little break. I think this year i want to do complete styles with little or no leave out and try crochet braids once

been there. I had to get a major hair cut. I felt relieved too.

movingforward: I think I am going to do the kanekalon/marley buns. Otherwise, I am just bunning my own hair, which I didn't want to do, but it's all I feel comfortable doing now!

Currently wearing my crochet wig I made with the very front of my hair crocheted which I think looks more natural. Plus the hair I used doesn't need to be redipped ever and I won't have to worry about blending.

Hoping this wig will last for the next few months. Once it gets hot I might just crochet all of my hair, but this is way easier.

Come on now. You know we're looking for pictures.

Been in this crochet three weeks today. I'm getting it freshened on the 22nd so , it will make it to the total of 12 weeks I want to have it in.

I only put it on when I have somewhere to go :look:

It's longer and not as full as I'd like, but I know what I'll do next wig. As it gets frizzy I will trim as I go to get the correct length.

I can't stand how this braider did my braids for this crochet install. Instead of getting it refreshed next Sunday, shes going to install a fresh set of crochet braids.

This Tuesday will be 4 weeks into this current protective style though, so I don't feel so bad. Taking these down on Friday and then deep conditioning and stretching for Sundays install.

lately ive been hiding my hair under bonnets and scarfs... lol

My wigs are starting to look a little ratty. i would get a human hair wig but i really don't wanna pay $200+ for one

The plan was to hide my hair using mini braids for the entire year. Welp, it's only February and already dh is complaining. Buns don't work for me because I hate dealing with all this hair at once. I'm really just thinking about cutting if off and maintaining a short afro.
