I would love to join but I made a promise to myself not to install any more braids in my head. I wore braids for two and a half years and while my hair grew, I did not learn anything about taking care of my natural hair. I've never worn a wig or weave and my hair is not long enough to put into a bun so those are out of the question. But good luck to those who choose to join. I'll definitely check periodically to see how everyone is doing.

You are doing the right thing. Extension braids cause eventual cuticle damage and it can compromise your scalp health especially if worn as your protective style for more than 40 percent of the time. I extension braided for so many years and I truly regret doing so. The one time I stopped wearing extension braids for three years, I was actually able to tell the difference between shedding and hair breakage.

Best,
Almond Eyes

@almond eyes & @Misseyl

My first time wearing wigs was for this year's Wig Challenge and my first time wearing braids/twists would be for this challenge. I was going to do crochet braids/twists in the middle of my hair and extension braids/twists around the perimeter for a more realistic look. But this conversation has scared me and I think it's best for me to do crochet braids/twists all over.

I tried to sneak and braid up my hair before SO, saw me! I don't want him to see anything either! I want to do a big reveal!

I'm in!!

a: I am newly natural

b. Current Hair Length: I have several lengths all over: the longest are 5 inches and shortest 3 inches

c. Hair Length Goal: 9 inches all over - close to shoulder length stretched

d. How many inches needed to reach hair length goal? 4 - 6 inches

e. Regimen: Wash flat twists once a month with Joico
Co-wash every three days with One & Only Aragon Moisture Recovery Conditioner
Spray daily with mix of Kenra, Aloe Vera Juice, Infusium 23, Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil and water
Retwist every other week.

I just ordered some Shea Butter and intend to add that to the regimen as well. I have really dry hair and hope that it will help retain moisture and therefore hair length.

f. Braids/Locs/Twists/Buns/Weaves/Wigs? Wigs

g. How long will you be in the challenge? Definitely 6 months I'd love to go for the entire year but I get restless to try new things.

This is from two months ago before I twisted it up for the week.

Your curly fro is too cute.

I totally understand and that's why I've been hiding my hair for 2 years. I'm hoping to do a big reveal to my family, friends & co-workers at the end of 2015.

Happy New Year Ladies!!!

Below is a photo of my first attempt at Senegalese twists. It took me about 9 hours to install. My goal is to keep them in until the end of the month.

Come on ladies and post those photos of your current hairstyle.
