Hey Naturals!! Summer Hair!! What are you doing?

Since I'm not that far into my natural journey...I might do cornrows and that's it.

I don't want to do a sew in b/c my hair is kinda short and I don't want to get used to the length/volume ya know?

I'm on a mission for growth and length retention--so buns Monday-Friday and wash n go's on the weekends! I might get a sew-in around my birthday in July...we shall see...i need to get over the BSL hump ive been here for what seems like years (not really lol)

I think the novelty of the twa has worn off on me and I realize I need more length for some of the styles I want to do. Therefore, ehem, I am going to KISS for the summer. Wash and gos for me! Not only wash and gos, but seriously keeping it simple with jazzi's wonderful "bohemian routine". No styling products, nothin. Just cowashes followed by either a light leave in, moisture spritz, or naked hair.

I'll probably do more twists-outs.
Besides my twist outs, i'll try flexi rod sets, wearing more scarfs, one cornrow style and buns slicked down with some IC gel. I usually I don't put gel unless it's a special occasion. But this summer, everyday's going to be a special occasion :)

More co-washing and my usual wng. I want to experiment with my first rollerset as a natural. Maybe I'll flatiron once to see the length.

I also want to perfect my twists/twist outs. When I do them now they look messy.

I know this will probably tick off some naturals, but the longer it gets, the easier it is to tangle (it's been that way since I was little), so I am going to flat iron it once a week w/ my sabino after dcing (I've been retaining and still growing while doing this. Moisture is key when conditioning), and that's it. I will do what I've been doing, wash, oil rinse, condition, dc, leave in some plain ole' moisturizing conditioner, detangle w/ fingers, brush through with my denman to distribute the pure moisturizing conditioner, add a little amla and olive creme and coconut oil (tiny amount), redistribute, add my sabino, brush through one more w/ denman and then dry and flat iron.

As an alternative I'll also braid it up on occassion but I like wearing it down more, and I just plan to leave it alone very low manipulation throughout the week.

sew-in once a month (probably until the end of the year) because i need to stop touching my hair.

I'm in plaits for the next month. But when I take them down i'm gonna spend the summer learning to cornrow the back of my head upwards:spinning:

I'm trying to do other styles other than a wash n go. My TWA is still not growing as fast as I'd like.:ohwell:

wash n gos, once a month flat iron, and i might try some two strand twist

I want to say twist but I have been doing twist all winter!! I am a SUMMER BABY and I crave for this season all year long so I want to live it up! I want to try some FUN AND EASY STYLES... BIG HAIR.. HAIR ACCESSORIES... all the while keeping it simple... :yep:

i'm just doing my same ole WnGs n puffs... tryin to keep it simple... it's way to hot in Mis'sippi to try in do intricate styles when i know by mid summer i'll be showering twice a day! and twists and braids usually slip rite out when i wash too much

i'm more worried about this sun litening up my hair! I promise some of my ends are d*mn near blonde already! is there a leave in w/spf? or shud i even be worried about it?

You can use Aloe Vera gel. I know that fantasia gel has sunscreen in it as well. I have no clue what I'm doing this summer. I'm thinking about getting braids again.

Although I am not completely natural, I am still enjoying my "getting there" status:grin:

Although I love wearing my hair down and doing my wash n' go's, I have found a lady that rollersets natural hair and gets it straight as a pin!!! When she did it, my hair had more body than I have EVER had when fully relaxed. I am going to let her rollerset me for special occasions this summer (if I could afford to, I would let her do it the entire summer; that's just how much I loved this lady!) (i can go for 2 entire weeks and it still looks fresh and she uses perfect technique with everything!).

The rest of the time, I will bun throughout the week and then let it fly free on the weekends! (Only b/c I like "big hair" which I won't wear throughout the week; probably once I am completely all natural, I can tame my hair a little better to wear throughout the week, but right now, with the ends still being relaxed, I have to do quite a bit to get it to act right, which often results in "big" hair - which is cool with me, but for the weekends:grin:)

i WAS going to do all twists for the whole year

but i just dont feel like it.

i'll do twists off and on (aka "when i dont feel so lazy")

and in between those - i'll do wash and go's
where i'll soak my hair in conditioner mixed w/ grapeseed oil at night
and rinse in the morning.

the conditioner/grapeseed oil do an amazing job at detangling my hair
i just run my fingers through it a few times (glides through easily)
and i dont lose a ton of hair...YAY ME!

i'll probably twist it back up when the cold weather hits again.

that's what it is!

Co wash and hide under the scarf.

I might do some baggies. Incubate my hair into growth with heat and moisture.

I don't count as a natural yet since i'm still transitioning (8 months in), but since my hair was originally short (cbl) when I started transitioning it likes to act like its completely natural!

I was planning on doing rodsets this whole summer, but after getting the first one, I realized that these just don't last long enough on me :wallbash: This one barely lasted a week! I have pictures, but they're kinda busted since its day 4 with them :nono: I have them pulled back into a sort of faux-hawk. I'm 'bout to just get a sew in >;c

Well here is the plan...We are still experiencing Spring..Summer starts mid June. So I'll be doing two stand twists up to June 14th..then flat iron for a special occasion, wear it in a straight bun for a week, back to 2 stand twist. I'm leaving for VA on 21st of June (anniversary vacation), I'll go to the salon but have them do some curls, I'll make them last the week by doing pin curls at night ...If it just totally fizzles out , I'll do bantu knots from whats left , that will look like a curly fro:grin:.
When I get back ..for the rest of the summer 2 strand /bantu. I have couple more special occasions, which I'll be doing flat ironing. Around the end of September I'll start going to the salon once per month for a flat iron..If I braid outs it will be kept in a bun or puff ....no flyaway hair for me ..unless its straight..
not really planning on too many wash and gos ..I find the longer my hair gets , wash&gos make it tangle and I have fine hair that webs..keeping my hair as straight as possible works for me.:yep: Thats my plan and I'm sticking to it..God willing:look:

I'm wiggin it till the end of the year. Might wear my hair out here and there in a WnG or twists.

Crown and Glory all summer. Braids will be done by me. I'm trying to retain all the growth I get this summer.
