Hey Ladies... blow drying question

I was wondering if anyone has success blow drying their hair straight and then braiding/curling their hair? My hair resists curling if I blow it straight.

Any tips? It seems ridiculous to take your curly hair, straighten it, and then try to put curl back in it, but that's the goal. My "beachy waves" today turned into a fuzz ball.

Naptural85 has a new twistout video where she does curlformers first, combs her hair out to get that blown out look, and then does a twist out with gel to get nice waves. Is that the kind of look you're talking about?

Yes. Well I was basically just wanting the blow out for length but still waves/braidout that will hold. Thank you. I will look for that video.
