Hey Houstonians!!! I got a question for you!

I need to find a good salon here in Houston. Preferably somewhere on the Southeast side. I live like five minutes away from The Betty Salon: The Hair Center(you know, the Dominican Salon), but I'm really scared to try it. I've never gotten a blowout, and I don't know if they can work with my thick 4a/b hair. My mother got a blowout once, and her hair is a little less thicker than mine, and she said her hair looked like a hot mess. :nono: You see why a worry? I'm looking for one, that's inexpensive, because the one I got to now is TOO expensive. I won't even say the cost, because y'all might do the slap face smiley on me! :lachen:A salon that knows how to do a healthy relaxer, and with beauticians that are somewhat knowledgeable. Where do y'all go?

Hey! I got to Culture Salon (google her). She's on Shepherd by Highway 59. She charges $90 for a perm & i've been going to her for the past 3 years. But I decided to settle for something cheaper & that cost me over 4inches of hair (relaxer gone bad!)

So I ran back to Culture Salon b/c i've learned the hard way that cost is not an option for my locks....

Oh! Did I mention that she's incredibly professional & really up there. Down side though is that sometimes she travels frequently to NY. Upside is when in NY she does major Fashion shows & sometimes learns new tricks that she brings back to Houston.

AHHHH!!! I'll stay with the $55! lol.

For my last relaxer, I went to 360 Degree Hair Studio, on the SW, 59 & Hillcroft. This salon only uses Design Essentials, her name is Nakeitha. I plan on going back to her for my next relaxer, I liked how fast she applied the relaxer and she was gentle with my hair (7 months post).

How much did her relaxer cost?

Speaking of Houston hair...Anybody been to The Root of You....They say they specialize in natural hair and if I decide to get my hair straightened, I'd think about going there...any thoughts?

Hey, I went to the address listed on roundbrushhair.com (11237 Fuqua) and that shop is not there. Where exactly is Betty's? There was a Betty's on the Gulf Frwy @ College but it has another name now.

This salon isn't on the southside, but when I visited Houston not too long ago, I got my hair done at Hair Resort, and Keisha was REALLY good and CHEAP!!!!! And I wasn't there all day!!
I got my hair washed, deep conditioned, rolled in big rollers (for roller wrap) flat ironed (with a Chi)--and wrapped! My hair was sooooo pretty and full of body!! If memory serves me correct it was only about $25 to $30. I'm not sure how much the relaxers are, but I'm sure they are not THAT expensive.
BTW, a girlfriend of mine goes here and told me about it.

I'm not sure in 'Houstonian' terms where this shop is (ie....NW, NE) but I do have the address. Also, the map on the business card shows that it is right off interstate 59, and near Beltway 8 North.

I know it's on the north side because it wasn't far from where I was staying in Jersey Village---plus the area where it is located is where I ended up, when I got lost leaving George Bush Airport...:perplexed:look:
The shop is in this shopping center near some lumber store and next to a nail shop. (got me a pedi after I got my hur done)

When I move to Houston, THIS will be the spot that I will be getting my hair done!

Anyway, here is the info on the business card!

Betty's isn't on it's name. It's called The Hair Center(the second part of their name), but I went and asked and they said it was Betty's Salon. It just wasn't on the sign.

I have heard good things about them. My mother and I were thinking of going there this summer, but then we decided to do our own hair. Sorry, I can't speak from personal experience, but if you do go there tell how they were. We probably will visit it one of these day, and I'll be sure to tell you about it.

Thank you for replying:D I saw the shop you're speaking of. I went by on a Sunday and saw only white pics on the wall and thought I'd made a mistake:ohwell:

:lachen:That's exactly what I said. I was like, "I don't think these people know how to work with my hair." Maybe I was wrong...idk. :nono:

I went to Betty's this weekend & i'm sold!!!!!

i love betty & her daughter. Her daughter at first was giving off attitude b/c I didnt make an appointment, but her mum was nice enough to do my hair anyway. Howveer, after a while her daughter warmed up & was all laughs, telling me about her hair journey - she went from past almost WL to SL

Betty herself was really nice, but she's not too fluent in english. She's also courteous - asking what I wanted done or if I wanted to use my own products, and when I came out of the dryer to stand by her work station and watch her work her magic on a client, she left what she was doing and brought a chair for me to sit.
I was so impressed with Betty's blowout on my hair that I gave her a big hug & a kiss. I also noticed 2 AA females with healthy hair - one with almost BSL.

PLEASE....PLEASE...PRETTY PLEASE...POST PICS:pray: :D

Also did you get a price list? Which day did you go and how bust were they? I assume that they prefer you make an appointment.

Last question....did you see any other AA women?

Shoarthair forever - I'm a 3b/c. But she looks very capable. Why dont you try a basic rollerset & wrap; no blow-outs or flat iron & see how you like her.

Nicki6 - Sorry. I'm also too lazy to take pictures. But I went with my sister & she was so amazed at how gorgeous my hair was she kept taking pictures with her camera phone.

Price list? I didnt get one. I am SL and she charged me $32 for a wash, DC, Rollerset, Blow-out & flat iron (:grin:i cheated & got the works! But seriously, I wanted her to do the good and the bad & see if i would stick with her). My sister is almost BL and she did the same & Betty charged her $40. I went on Saturday about noon and she wasnt too busy. I only waited 10mins b4 she got started on my hair. I spent 3hours there, but i'm not sure if that was because I didnt make an appointment so others were priority. But the 3hrs flew by bc I was clowning with her daughter & another client. YES! Make an appointment & Betty takes CASH only. I will leave her contact info at the end of my post. I saw 4 AAs females. I talked to one in particular who had just found betty and was so excited b/c AA salons had KILLED her hair. This chick came down from NJ with WL hair (she showed me her pictures) and within 4months in Houston, she was left with Neck length :nono:.

Luving me- Betty is on Fuqua.

Address - 11237 Fuqua Houston, Tx, 77089.
Mon-Fri 11a.m. - 5p.m. ; Saturday 9:30a.m. - 5pm.
Call for Appt: (832) 887-6908 ; (713) 910-7594

NOTE - it's called the "Hair Center" and it's in the complex with SAM'S CLUB and the salon is right next to CICI'S PIZZA!

Hope you love Betty!!! Let us know how yall's experience goes

Hey Houston hair sisters. I just wanted to pop in and scope out the info here. I am considering going to a professional for my next relaxer but I would like to go to someone who will let me bring own relaxer so thanks for all of the info listed here.

I go to my aunt off of Fondren. Her name is Janice and she listens to what I'd liked done to my hair (learned from this board).

She own's Star Beauty Salon on Fondren and Portal (near West Bellfort)
713-773-4199 (Wed-Sat)

And her prices are resonable and she does great weaves. She does mine.
