Henna treatments

How many times did you have to henna before you could tell it was helping (strenghtning)your hair?

I did my second treatment Saturday and it seems as if I have more breakage then before.

The first time I use ACV but this time I only used water, olive oil and alma powder. It was not as dry this time but the breakage is still there.:ohwell:

I used the wrong kinda henna at first and i had breakage too- i was stressed out at that time but the henna was the only thing different that i did to my hair. When i stopped using that kind and started using my current kind- i really started noticing strengthening more than just color deposit. So i would say about 4 treatments.

what is the wrong kind of henna to use? I saw some at the health food store that starts with a j. I'm not sure if it is the right kind?

You have to make sure the henna is body art quality. If it is BAQ, then it is safe for your hair.

I noticed the strength immediately. A note about ACV, I was doing ACV rinses for weeks (no henna during that time) and they made my hair brittle. It really took a week or 2 of nursing my hair back to health before it got back to normal. :ohwell:

Wait so are ACV Rinses bad for the hair? What do you put in your henna instead of ACV? Thanks!

I noticed my hair was thicker and stronger after the first application. I used too much ACV though the first time around so I experienced dryness, tangling, and a little bit of breakage. The second time I didn't use any ACV and my hair was the bomb. Felt better than its felt in months!! I use BAQ Jamila brand. My pic in my avatar was the result of my last henna.

No it isn't. ACV is great for strengthing your hair, sealing your cuticles, detangling and imparting shine. You CAN go overboard, which will make your hair brittle. You only need a small amount of ACV to water ratio.

I noticed the strength in my hair after the first use of henna as well. I've done henna with and w/out amla powder. And it's always better without the amla. I've only done that 2x, so I'm still tweaking the amla. I do believe it has it's benefits, but like ACV, you have to find the right balance.

You how the saying goes, different things for different heads? My head did not care for ACV in the long run, although right after rinsing with it my hair felt amazing.

I used a little bit of lavendar oil mixed w/my amla oil in my last henna mix so I'm not sure if that acted as a terp. For me personally, I don't use ACV or lemon juice in my mixes. I find that the real Indian/Pakistani henna has plenty color release all by it's lonesome. :)

I used the same henna as you did but maybe it's just not for me.

Well- i used Lush henna on top of some permanent color that i still had on my hair. I was going through some serious stress so that probably did not help things and i experienced some breakage. It wasn't horrible, horrible and it was only noticeable to me but still i was not a happy camper.

Be careful with LUSH. It's compound henna.

Totally done with it. i got 1 lb of henna from www.thehennacompany.com . I almost finished with it. So i'll be using the henna i purchashed from ebay next. The seller lives in india and it is body art quality ( i have 1000g). I can't wait to see the difference.
