Henna question

I plan on doing my first henna this Thursday and I way just wondering, has doing henna treatments helped with shedding for anyone?? TIA

I swear I was thinking to do some henna this weekend, and wanted to make a thread about it.

I asked a friend of mine, and she pulled out some book about hair. Apparently henna is not good for your hair and it increases the shedding because it blocks the moisture from reaching the roots.

It's weird to hear that because my mum used to always put henna on my hair, from the age of 6 to 12.. till I said no more because I hated the slimy feel

But yeah... I've got a packet of black henna I want to use because I want a more jet black look. However, I'm putting that on hold till I find out more about the pros and cons of Henna.

yes, it stops shedding immediately on my hair, but when i stop using it it seems to shed again!

YES! I did my first henna treatment about a month ago and my shedding has decreased a lot. It made my hair instantly thicker. Plus I started balancing between moisture and protein. With that combination, shedding is down to the lowest it's ever been.
The longer you leave your henna in, the better the result IMO. I left mine in for 5 hours. hth

Absolutely. I did my first Henna treatment on the last day of July and I plan on doing it at the end of each month. After the first application I immediately noticed less and less hair coming out on my detangling comb.

edit: I agree with above poster to some extent. The longer you leave it in the better. Some people do have problems leaving it in for so long though. A woman on CurlyNikki complained that she even peed green. Some other complaints are too much dye release, more than they would have liked. I had no problems leaving mine on for 13 hours. I slept with it under my plastic cap and scarf.

Henna should not be black. If you have Henna that is black it is usually not Henna, or it is Henna mixed with bad ingredients. Henna is a green color, always. Indigo is the only plant that should produce a black paste and coat the hair black.

Beware of fake Henna because depending on the ingredients which can sometimes include metals, it can do things like turn your hair green (if chemically treated) or just mess up your hair leaving it a straw-like mess.

Thank you all, also one last question. Is there something I should or shouldn't do or add if I don't want to change my hair color??

Yes. If you have light brown hair Henna will be noticable even in normal light. You'll get some bright red/auburn undertones. If you don't want to change your color you can do a mixture of Henna and Indigo. if you are scared about losing any curl pattern you can throw some Amla powder in it. CurlyNikki has some really good posts on Henna if you visit her blog that explain a lot of things more easy than Hennaforhair sometimes does.
