henna question

Do I need to mix henna with anything before applying it? I read numerous responses and I'm confused.

At a bare minimum mix it with warm to hot water. Or you can add oil, honey(moisture), yogurt(conditioning/moisture/easier application), red wine(for more red), cloves for a browner color, amla( browner tone), shikakai or fo-ti powder, etc. Hope this clears up a little or your confusion.
