I know that there is a hundred or two threads on henna.

I am ready to try it now and have read up on a lot of information here and I am still a little confused. Now one of my sisters here has given me a site to order from and I also have found a local store that has henna that I will check out.

What I need now is a step by step process of mixing and applying the henna,

1. What do I put in the mix ( I don't want to put alot in it)
2. How long does it need to sit before applying,
3. How long on my hair before rinsing, what do I do after rinsing.
4. What do I do after rinsing.
5. If I want to use indigo when would I put that in

Like I say I know that all of this has been covered but it is way too much to read when at work and when I'm home I have a teenager after me to use the computer :D

TIA

1. What do I put in the mix ( I don't want to put alot in it) - only water to release, afterwards I add some oils and condish
2. How long does it need to sit before applying, - i let mine sit for 12 hours, but the color has released in as little as 4 hours
3. How long on my hair before rinsing, what do I do after rinsing.- you can leave it on for about 30 - 45 min with heat, a few ours without or even overnight
4. What do I do after rinsing.rinse, rinse and rinse some more :lachen: . I shampoo once and then DC with heat
5. If I want to use indigo when would I put that in- put the indigo on after you've rinsed the henna or you can do a 50/50 indigo henna mix.

Here is another short thread with great info: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=115160&highlight=henna

I just hennaed (henna glossed, actually) for the first time last weekend, and it was easy! I think it's one of those things that's actually hard to do "wrong". This is what I did, but you can always change up things as you see fit. Might take a few tries to find out what works for you.

  • I used 50 g of henna
  • Mixed with enough warm water to form a stiff paste
  • Added a few squirts of V05 Tea Therapy Tranquility conditioner (has a nice chamomile fragrance that works with the herbal-y smell of the henna)
  • Added a few TBS of Dabur Amla oil (but this took away the nice smell of the conditioner!)
  • Stirred again to combine, applied to hair with a tint brush - like I would apply a relaxer
  • Wear gloves so your hands don't turn orange!:)
  • Covered hennaed hair with a plastic cap and a towel, and let it sit for about 2 hours
  • Rinsed henna out with plain water, then used more V05 conditioner to help loosen henna bits
  • Shampooed with moisturizing shampoo (I think I used the last of my Elucence shampoo)
  • Deep conditioned with an ORS Replenishing Pak
I really didn't think the process was difficult. Like you, I didn't want to put too much stuff into my mix. The hardest part was applying it. It took awhile. Rinsing was easy (helps to use conditioner to get it all out), and my hair felt great afterwards. I did get some color release, but I really love it! The color has toned down some since Saturday.

I just hennaed for the first time monday night and I thought it was pretty easy too. I simply added hot, not boiling water to my Jamila henna until it was the consistency of cake batter, or yogurt..., then I added about 1 tablespoon of ACV to release the color. Let it sit for 12 hours then added a shot of hot 6 oil and Suave cheapie conditioner. Put it on like a relaxer, except I put all the way to the ends, wrapped Saran wrap and a plastic shower cap on, sat under the heat cap for an hour and Rinsed, rinsed, rinsed and followed with a poo and deep conditoner. I loved it!!!! Oh yea, don't forget the gloves....

Yeah, I'm glad you liked it! Where'd you get yours from?

Ok I have my henna sitting. I am only going to let it sit for 30 min, don't want a lot of color realease.

What color is it suppose to be when stirring. It is a brownish green color is that right.

I added warm water, alma power, cocunut oil, yogurt and VO5 conditioner. I will keep everyone informed.
