Henna Heads I Need Your Help!!!

I have both Nupur and the Henna for African Hair kit from Mehandi, so I think Ill use the Nupur first. @MileHighDiva
If I go to deep condition immediately after, won't that mitigate the drying effects of the citrus? I thought the conditioning properties would be stronger with a more acidic liquid, but if you guys get great results with just coconut milk I'll do that instead. @DarkJoy

And would you both recommend just immediately putting it on my hair and leaving it to release in my hair overnight? Thank you so much/I hope I'm not asking too many questions

Tbh I have highly porous hair. I cant leave any conditioners on it long. Or coconut milk (the protein). I just mix mine with distilled water then DC afterwards. Dry and dirty, dry and clean, wet and clean my hi p.o. hair takes henna as is .

You can apply it overnight if you want.

There's a bunch of ways to use henna. It just takes experimenting to find what works for you. Mine just happened to be the most basic

But like @MileHighDiva said we want you to have a fantastic first experience! So check that coconut milk to ensure no preservatives and check that conditioner to ensure theres no protein near the top to middle of the ingredients list

Okay! I actually gave in and did it already lol. Wow this is actually amazing. This is one thing I wish I had started doing wayyyyy earlier-- it actually lived up to the hype! And the coconut milk made my hair soooooo soft guys. I'm at work, but I will post pics of the definition and shine that I NEVER had in a wash and go before.

I can't wait to see your pix! I'm happy you used the coconut milk instead of the lemon/orange juice. Also, I'm glad to hear that you had a pleasant experience.

You'll have to tell us how long you let it release, how long you kept it on, what did you DC with when you were done.

It's so exciting to have another Henna Head on the board!

I'm still at work, so no pics yet, but I actually didn't wait for it to release. One of my friends who is Ethiopian (her entire family does henna regularly and she has alluded to it being somewhat of a cultural thing she grew up doing) told me that it's best to let the henna release directly unto your hair instead of waiting for it to release. Would you all say that you have similar experiences?

After that, since I was letting it release on my hair, I left it on for about 9 or 10 hours but it actually released very quickly, after about an hour or two and I'm not sure why lol.

Then I had my fiance help me wash it out and added a mixture of Keracare Humecto, Alter Ego Garlic Deep Treatment and Oyin Moisture Butter and sat under my bonnet for 45 minutes. Then I washed it out, and I was too tired to take pics, but that's got to be the softest my hair has felt possibly in my life!!!! Even my fiance (who is Hispanic and likes my hair without understanding all of the workings of natural hair) was like wow your hair is so soft and shiny and curly.
Honestly, my hair never obeys when I do twist outs or braid outs-- it always goes right back to a big stretched fro with no definition (see my profile pic lmao). This is both of our first time seeing my hair with any visible curls in it, which in and of itself is a revelation.

So yes....I will being doing at least 2 more full head treatments because my hair is like and also because I didn't do this earlier in my journey. You guys are so AWESOME

ETA: pics and my hair is in two puffs because I'm back at school and don't have time to twist it up but need to stretch it lol-- but idk if ya'll see how curly it is-- like, I'm 4C lol

I am really low key with henna. Typically I mix henna and coconut milk then I go to bed it has been a long time since I let the dye release in a bowl. But my hair is soft but strong and shiny I do it about every four -six weeks.

I used all of my Nupur henna, so I am planning to do my next treatment next week with the Henna for African Hair that I have. I think I'll only use 250g this time, instead of 300. I'm going to have my fiance go through my hair more methodically than last time, more like a relaxer.

I used to do that too until this year. Unless im using a batch ive frozen, I dont worry to much about letting it release first.

-*100 grams of Red Raj
-1/4 cup of hibiscus powder
-1 can of Sprouts Coconut Milk
-*2 caps full of hydrolyzed silk protein

I'll sleep overnight with one half batch on my freshly cleansed hair. The other half is in the freezer for May's treatment.

*First time using Red Raj in lieu of Jamila. Also, first time using hydrolyzed silk protein in my mix. I should've started with one cap full, instead of two.

Hi, I am still using henna! It definitely makes my hair even stronger the more I use it-- it's definitely a compounding effect that I really appreciate. It has also loosened my curl pattern slightly.

I'm considering doing henna while I'm abroad, because I just have the feeling that some pure henna straight from an Indian grocery store here in the UK would give me incredible results. I'm definitely going to wait for my husband to arrive so he can help me though
Has anyone here ever put henna on:
1. cornrowed, twisted or braided hair?
2. is your hair usually wet, damp or dry (I have always done it dry in the past), but I am wondering what the effect would be of having damp or wet hair during application. On one hand, my instinct is to say that the henna might not stick as well to wet hair, but on the other hand, damp hair could possibly work because the slight wetness allows for better coverage over the surface area of the hair.

In the UK, I order my BAQ henna from suvarna.Co.uk. Wonderful smooth stuff every time. I've also applied henna to my wet/ damp hair, as well as dry without issue. I prefer putting henna on damp hair, just for ease of application.
