Henna & Hair Color

Now that I am natural, I just realized that I can consider the wonderful world of color again. I love the new multi-dimensional color techniques that are popular now.

I read somewhere that once you use henna that regular hair color will not take, the henna has to grow out or be cut out before a successful color or bleaching can occur.

Is this true?

TIA :yep:

That's more indigo you're talking about (turns green when bleached...eekkk). Henna can be bled out a bit via bleaching or even multiple washing to make it fade, but you should think of natural dyes a permanent before you take the leap. IOW, I say it's difficult, but not impossible, to take henna out and then use a commercial dye. The color in henna tends to be adjusted via other natural dyes like indigo or cassia.

Before you choose to henna and other natural dyes, make a commitment to it because it IS difficult to remove.

That's just want I needed to know. It makes sense, even though henna is natural and has conditioning properties, the hair accepts it like a process of sorts. Mutliple processes are risky in my opinion. I have time to think about my options. Thanks for your response!

No problems...glad I could help. :) Have any idea what color you might be going for? Hennas very nice on natural African textured hair. Just my observation, but the colors seem to "take" better and does so w/o using drying acids like lemon juice. Over time, it can help relax the curl structure too, so there's some benefits you might consider.
