The only thing that could make hemp seed oil better is if it gave you a buzz. :look: It's a part of my ceramide mix (wheat germ oil, hemp seed oil, kukui nut oil and sunflower oil) that I add to my hair dressings and conditioners.

ok guess Im buying this today.

I just got some WGO and my hair loves it :)

just got around to buying the hemp seed oil.... my hair is thanking me.

its all the lovely things mentioned before, just splendid

OT: Ive had 3 perfect hits with oils lately, jojoba, wheat germ and now hemp seed ... AWESOME in their own ways

Lordy!!! The PJ in me says that I should buy some, but I told myself no more purchases...

YOU ARE CORRECT!!! This stuff is the truth!! I can't get enough of it! I've added it to everything.. my dry hair stays soft!

I've been using it for about a month now and I really like it. I've been using other ceramide oils, but hemp seed is my favorite. I use it in everything now: pre-poo treatments, sealing and mixed in DC's.

Echoing Yoshi3329, here are the benefits I've found:

Hair holds moisture longer
Softer hair
Improved elasticity
Easier detangling
Increased natural sheen

I also think that its better protects my hair from the sun/heat. I live in a very hot place and I'm in the sun quite a bit, sometimes when I would go to wash my hair there was a hint of burnt hair smell. Like when using a pressing comb (this would have to be from the sun because I don't use heat at all now). Since incorpaorating ceramide oils, I no longer have that scent when I wet my hair.

Do you use heat with your dc's and prepoos? I was just wondering because I have read that the hemp oil degrades with heat.

What brand of hemp oil do you all use? I saw this Nutiva brand today, but wasn't sure if this is the right one. It looks like its more for eating.

Food grade is fine - in fact preferred. I just got mine from whole foods today - it's in the fridge and I'm too lazy to go and look for the brand but it but was with the other oils in the baking aisle - this is where I got my sunflower seed oil as well. I've had great results from the sunflower oil but I thought I'd kick it up a notch by adding hemp oil. I did try to find wheat germ oil first but none of the stores in my area carry it and since I'd rather not deal with ordering oil in this hot weather I prefer to work with what's available locally.

Here is my assessment of Hempseed oil:

Yesterday I DC'd for an hour with 2 diff. AO conditioners as my base. WC and HSR ( HSR normally does nothing my hair). I did 2 sections to see how my hair would turn out on each side. I also added 1-2 T of some other conditioners that I am trying to use up they were Lustrasilks Argan and the Olive oil one and Curls Ectasy conditioner. I also added 1 T of EVOO and EVCO each. Oh yeah and 1 T of hemp oil in each batch. I make 7 weeks post tomorrow and by now I cant comb through my NG in the back. I was able to with ease this time. I started spraying Taalijah Waajid Bodifier mist on my NG last week. This week I waited til my hair was dry to see there would be any difference. There was, I did not even need the bodifier, I used it any way as extra protection ( I like this stuff alot).

Well I have to say both sides felt exactly the same, SILKY, SMOOTH, STRONG with high elasticity, my strands felt thicker as well. My NG laid down like no bodies business and even though is was not relaxed to my desire on my last TU it looks smoother. This is a keeper.

I did this same conditioner on my 11 DD's natural hair. The back of her hair from the crown back is 4ab and once it is dry I have to rewet otherwise the braids dont come out smooth. This time I did not have to rewet. The braiding went alot faster.

I am very happy and will keep doing this for the both of us.

If you have a conditioner that you are trying to use up. Put 1 T or more depending on your length and it will kick it up notch.

I just made a batch of protein conditioner to imitate Aphogees's 2 min reconstrutor (without the cones). I made a 16 oz batch. I put 8 oz Ion effectve care... and Millscreek biotion ( I added 2 T each Avocado oil and WGO to the 8 oz measuring cup then added the Millscreek to fill the to the top of cup), 1 t panthenol plus 4 caps of Aloe Vera juice to thin it out and to drop the ph a bit. I will be using in a couple of days (no longer than 5 min no heat). I will be back with my assesment. If this works out well this will be my mild protein 2x a month, Cross your fingers.

I've heard that food grade oils are best because if they good enough to be ingested they are safe to be used topically. I got my oil on the isle with the rest of the cooking oils (grapeseed, olive.. and the rest)

Thank you. I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm looking forward to trying it now.

So glad to know that the thicker oils work better for 4a/4b hair types. I will try the wheat germ oil this weekend.

Just bought some yesterday and used it to seal this morning. I mixed it with some coconut oil. It's the best oil I have used so far. I thought my hair didn't really care for oils, obviously I've been using the wrong ones!
The texture of my natural hair is just so much nicer - hard to describe - bouncier? sleeker? moisturized. This will definitely become a staple from now on.

Just a thought ...I have 3b/3c/4a fine hair and I am noticing that alot of the ladies (not all) here that like it have the same type of hair. The 4a/4b thicker haired ladies tend to like wheat germ oil better as it is heavier (like castor oil) I won't try wheat germ oil as I have curbed my PJism and I'm quite happy with the Hempseed but MissJae I would say try the wheat germ oil too.

My 4ab (fine, medium and a small amount or course strands) likes both. I think I like the hempseed a little more as it smooths a little better. The feeling I get is amazing.

The following is some info I got on the web in an effort to properly explain ceramides to you: Ceramides are naturally occurring lipids (or fatty materials) found in the hair fiber or naturally in the skin. ceramides molecules that "bind the cuticle cells to the cortex and
Ceramides naturally exist within the hair fiber, sandwiched in a region between the cuticle and cortex called the cell membrane complex (CMC). Ceramides are also believed to play a role in the hair's transition from "live cells" within the follicle and beneath the skin's surface, to the dead, keratinized hair shafts that we see.

Think of ceramides as hair glue. Without them, our cuticle layers would simply fall off and unhinge themselves, rather than gently weather and erode, from the constant damage they endure. Damaged hair has typically exhausted its natural supply of ceramides, and is often brittle, dry, and difficult to manage as a result. Many hair products contain synthetic, lab-created ceramides to help replace the ceramides naturally lost from the hair during regular washing, styling, and chemical treating. Ceramides are needed as a part of any basic moisture and protein conditioning plan to restore the hair's health.

Hope this helps!

Ummm...what are ceramides? :ohwell:

I purchased some WGO and grapeseed oil this week. So far I have used them as a prepoo and in the conditioner. Before I put twists in I mix them with a lil bit of Aussie moist and put it on each section. I LOVE it so far. My twists are so juicy and soft!

After reading all 3 pages I think I will make a purchase of Hemp Seed Oil have a couple of questions though

-Is hemp seed oil act like a protein like coconut oil does or is it strictly for moisturizing properties (I need moisture)

-Are you ladies using it as a sealer or mixing it into conditioners, if you are mixing into conditioners how much are you putting in there?

-Where can I purchase I live in Toronto, Canada would I be able to find it at a GNC or Health food store, what brand should I get

With all the positive testimonies I think I need this in my hair regime I have 4 a/b hair.
