Hi Ladies, I am in the Crown and Glory Challenge and I took my braids out so I can get a fresh set put in for college because I go back on Monday. I have about a 1in. of new growth and the last perm I got was December 10, 2004. I don’t plan to perm my hair any time soon.

Demarcation is setting in. I also noticed that the new hair is darker and more textured that the old hair which is lighter and thin. What do I do first? Do I do a deep condition treatment or do a protein treatment? How do manage the new hair. Thank you in advance.

Ok I have done a search problem solved. I will keep my hair in braids avoid combing while dry. Moisture is the key to less breakage. Thanks again

can you let me know the steps you took after you took out the braids? I too will be getting braids and am afraid of major breakge on the ends.. tia

when I take my braids down I usually,( clarify, protein trmt, then do a deep moisture trmt for about 4 hours or more for maximum moisture, air dry "w/oilve oil, carrot, hot six oil, coconut oil that I already have mixed in a bottle", with my ntm silk touch leave in. then from anywhere from a week or maybe next day, I get my hair rebraided :)

That is great advice Carletta. I had individual braids pencil size. I did not know what to do so I just deep conditioned my hair. But I made sure while I had the braids in I kept my hair with african braid spary, Infusioum 23 and jerri curl moisturizer daliy. I did not have that much build up around the root of the braids because I washed my hair, I kept my normal routine for washing and conditioning my hair. When I took my braids out I did it slow and used my fingers and some of the braids slid right out thanks to that grow afro long hair web site.
