Hey Everybody!!

I'm new here and I am SO excited I found this forum! Over the last few days I have been reviewing some of progress many of you have had and I think it's awesome! I will be glad when I have reached my goals as so many of you have!

However I am in need of your help ladies because I feel CLUELESS and OVERWHELMED to say the least because you all have SO many great ideas and I know I should try what works best for me but I need some suggestions. So I need someone to be my "MENTOR" or my "Locks Sister" to help me get a regiment down. And you have to be patient and understanding because trust me I am that "Special" kind of special when it comes to hair.

For instance it took me awhile to catch on to your goals. I was like:huh: what's an APL!? But I eventually caught on!

I have questions like:

1. What is a Co-Wash?
2. When do I co-wash?
3. To trim or not to trim?
4. Once I start to stretch between my perms how will I be able to manage this mess?! :lachen:Especially with all the no heat recommendations I see around here.

AND THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING! PLEASE HELP ME! :help3:

Welcome doll!!

Well....a co-wash is when you wash your hair using conditioner...most ladies use what we call a "cheapie" conditioner...it's usually Vo5, suave, garnier, aussie etc.... I co-wash while i'm in the shower... i just step in, get my hair & body wet, slap conditioner in and massage it in, clean my body, then rinse with cool water and i'm done - besides after getting a cool blast i'm not really wanting to linger around lol...

co-wash as often as you like. it depends on your hair and what it needs. just like trimming vs. not trimming...do what works for your hair...some people can go without trimming, some people can't...some people can make it without heat and some people can't...use this time to get to know your hair and find out what you need and don't need.... i know as a newbie, it can get overwhelming and you want to try everything that everyone mentions!! that's how pj's evolve lol...but get product recommendations and google items...find out what ingredients are in products and determine the best use of products for your hair... and don't be afraid to ask questions!!!

i hope this helps you in any way and if not, i'm sure other ladies will jump in...

Hi there and welcome
I'm happy to answer your questions but at your leisure go up to the top of this page and do a search on all your questions. You will find a gang of info, challenges and even products.

1. Co-wash is short for conditioner washes; instead of using shampoo you use a cheap conditioner like Suave, V05, etc.
2. Many of use do it daily, but I've read alot of our relaxed diva's do it more like 2 to 3 times a week.
3. IMO (In my opinion) Yes definitely do a trim every 8 weeks or atleast do some light dusting.
4. I'm natural but I've also read alot of the relax heads do roller sets or buns to ease in their transition.

Hope this helps and again welcome.

Hi and Welcome! i will answer your questions for you, but i hope someone can come in here and become a big sister for you! i would like one as well

1. What is a Co-Wash? lightly cleansing your hair with a non- silicone based conditioner, instead of shampoo. (like Suave Naturals or Vo5 conditioners)
2. When do I co-wash? you can cowash as much as you feel the need to. most people do it 2 to 3 times a week. most people with natural textures do it daily.
3. To trim or not to trim? trim only when needed. you can lightly dust your ends if you start to see split ends. most people trim every three months, six months, or once a year.
4. Once I start to stretch between my perms how will I be able to manage this mess?! Especially with all the no heat. cowashing and keeping your new growth moisturized will help with stretching. make sure you deep condition your hair at least once a week with a moisturizing deep conditioner. be mindful if your hair starts to have that mushy feeling and starts to break off in tiny pieces. that means you need a protein treatment to build the strength back into your hair. use wide-tooth combs that won't cause split ends or breakage. wearing low manipulation or protective hairstyles will help also. this way you are not constantly having to touch, comb, or brush your hair daily.

Hey GG08,

I'm fairly new to the LHCF and love it! There's lots of helpful under the "Favorite Stickies" at the top of the forum. I'm seeing a big difference in my hair after just a short time (and lots of cash is missing out of my pocket!). Enjoy the journey to healthy and happy hair.

Welcome!!! All I can say is that search box in the upper right hand corner will be your best friend. Take notes and copy and paste useful information. Oh yeah and take pictures if at all possible.

HHG! (Happy Hair Growing!)

Welcome to the forum. I'm not pushing you off but the best thing you can do is to use the SEARCH ENGINE to find a lot of info. The search is also a good start for you to learn how to look around, start clicking and use the forum. You'll begin to see a lot of things you may miss if you do not do some self discovery.Took me months to finally discover stickies and other areas here.
