Today is my one month natural anniversary:clapping: so I took pictures and I think I have scab hair. There's all these straight pieces all over. Can anyone give a sista some advice?

I had scab hair when I first went natural and it was just leftover relaxed hair coming out of the follicles scab hair is usually very very dry and hard and no matter what you use your hair will be bone dry, I had to just let my hair grow out, straight pieces of hair isn't scab hair. Someone else can chime in. It happens to some when going natural, The name SCAB sounds so horrible LOL!! but bascically it is just very dry hair that is growing out until your real natural texture grows through.

It could be, after I BCed my hair was 4a/3c in most places, except on the front sides it was very very dry, brittle hair that absolutely no curl pattrn or ANY pattern for that matter, it was just scraggly. After several months of CWish, Pre-Pooing and DCing its now 'repaired' and is a distinct 3c.

It could be scab hair, or it could be left over relaxed hair (but from the looks of it you shaved it all off so its probably scab hair), just baby it, give it lots of protein and moisture and as your hair grows more you'll start to see your real curl pattern

I sure did shave it...twice! I wanted to make sure all the perm was out but these straight hairs have me wondering if it is. For the most part, I can see a curl pattern of wide curls, except where it's shorter in the back, it's wavy.

Only thing you can do is keep it moisturized and let it grow out as it will.
My roots are still wavy but the former wavy parts are starting to become less wavy and more corkscrew:spinning:...making the need for demarcation line moisturization critical.

co-signing. I have/had scab hair and nothing I do/did worked it seemed. After a couple of months, the hair become more manageable for me.

I was wondering about this as well and I am 7 1/2 months natural. I had shaved all my hair off but I still see some straight pieces sticking out like asian hair in some places.

i think i have sum because the roots are beginning to grow like the rest of my hair but the ends r straighter but they arent dry or brittle so i dont kno if its scab hair
