Hello Ladies

About a month ago I proudly proclaimed APL and I will admit not all my hair was APL but I was hitting it nonetheless! Well I put a hot comb to my hair (yes this is a no-no for me but I just had to) and low and behold I'm no longer touching APL.

I did go thru a very bad dry spell for one month and that was due to using Shampoo and I tell you my hair was coming out like crazy. By the time I realized it, it was too last and the damage was already done.

To help regain moisture from my Shampoo fiasco I applied AO - condish to my hair every nite and CO every morning for 2 week!

It took me one whole year to get to where I am today and one great set-back to lose it all length-wise. But the quality of my hair is 100% better than last year this time. My hair has thickened up tremendously and I am very proud of that but now I want length.

I wore protective styles (by way of bunning and phony ponies) all year and baggie most of it and it seems as if it is not helping me gain length.

Here is my current regimen: (please correct me here needed)

Daily
  • AM – Herbal Mix seal with Coconut oil and protective styling
  • PM - Apply AO condish seal with Coconut Oil and wrap hair with satin scarf
Weekly
  • Clarify (using ACV and distilled water)
  • Henna (allow to sit 1 hour w/o heat)
  • Apply AO – GPB (allow to sit overnight)
  • Rollerset
You will notice that Poo is not in the mix!!!!! NO more shampoo for me!

Tri-Monthly
  • Texturizer
I am starting to believe my ends where suffocating so I will continue to where protective styles but the kind that will not allow my ends do not touch my clothing.

Please help!!!!! I really want to see some length this time next year!

Hey Mona

I'm really sorry to hear about your setback. What length are you now exactly??

I would say to go back to what you were doing since you think it's the shampoo that set you back and nothing else. I am becoming a believer that if it's working for you don't fix it. Unless you think baggying was part of the reason you had your set back. In general I think any protective style that keeps your hair off of your clothes (especially in the winter) will help you. Obviously protective styles that require little to no daily manipulation work best, which is why I weave, it's really working for me. Either way if you hit APL with your original regimen I can't see a reason why you won't hit it again.

I really hope that helps and that you reach your goals:) .

Stay encouraged, MonaRae. I'm sorry about your set-back.

I have heard of other ladies who do not wash with shampoos. They conditioner wash or even oil wash. You do conditioner washes already, right?

Just hang in there. It seems that your routine is working for you. Just consider adding the water (with con washes or oil washes) once or twice a week, if you are not already.

Hi Mona....., so sorry to hear about your setback, and I hope this year will be the best one for you.

I have began to see tremendous changes in my hair when I began to apply castor oil as a sealant everyday. I started to co-wash daily, put my favorite leave-in and then seal my hair with castor oil and I cannot say enough. I stopped washing 2X per week to once and I use Lamas Wheatgrass shampoo which is just awesome.

I am sure you will find a good regimen for your hair and the mishap thing will be a thing of the past.

Hmm...sounds like your regimen is working fine for you. But if it's the length you want to get and retain, maybe you need a protein reconstructor. You could use it every few weeks.

Awwww...Mona, I am sorry to hear this (((hugs))). I would say to wear your own hair in a ponytail and baggy the ends with profective healthy ends or mango butter sealed with kemi oyl or coconut oil. Wash/ deep condition your hair every 3 days....rotating between a moisturizing conditioner and light protein treatment. I know you said you was not going to shampoo but when you shampoo your hair only shampoo the base of your hair and not the last 4 or 5 inches of your hair...The lather from the residue is enough to get your ends clean. What kind of shampoo are you using....Use a moisturizing one or one like cantu shea butter, or something of that sort. You know you will have to clarify often if you use cantu shea butter....um let's see..what exactly is the acv rinse...is that vinger...If so, I'll say stay away from that right now...IDK exacly why but I would...JMHO:p

Thank you ladies for the encouraging words!

Mystic - I started using Castor Oil about 4 months ago and it is all that and a bag of chips! Lately I CO and as soon as I get out the shower I apply it to my ends. Best thing since slice bread!!!!!

Navsegda - I stopped using my Aphogee 2 Minutes protein reconstructor for no good reason! Its time to get back to it. Thanks!

Also as Rabia stated, if you know what is working for you, don't change a thing..I'm tempted all the time to change my regimen but others are raving on certain products..like aveda (but I really want that) or Silk Elements but I said to self...self stick with what's working for you...what works for others might not work for you...My regimen consists of some cheap products and some expensive products and they're working fine...so I am going to stick with what's working for me...stick with what works for you and don't try nothing new..and do not put another hot comb to ya head:p
