I decided a few months ago to go natural, and it's been somewhat of a challenge ever since then. I currently have about 7 months (4 inches?) of "new growth" and I was waiting until after my graduation in December to cut all the relaxer off. My problem is that I am catching hell to take care my hair in this state (EXTREMELY thick natural hair, and really stringy relaxed ends) and I'm getting anxious waiting to see what my natural hair looks like!! I tried to go to the hairdresser today to get it professionally cut but of course being Monday they were closed. I'm trying to calm myself down (after all I have to face the college world tomorrow) but I've already cut about 4 inches of relaxer from somewhere in the middle of my head and I'm trying to build up the nerve to do the rest.
I have ABSOLUTELY NO STYLING experience!!! If any one can offer ANY guidance as to how I can proceed please feel free to share. I may not cut it myself tonight, but if I do I don't want to complete jack myself up!

What she said!!!
I actually read all of them AFTER I got out the shower. But thank you so much because I actually did do EVERYTHING you recommended, so I know I was at least on the right track. I feel SO empowered right now... I was trying hard not to sing it, but India's "I'm am not my hair" kept playing in my head. lol And then I catch myself singing out loud to my scissors "You make me feel like a NATURAL woman". Hehe... I'm SO excited right now. All of my friends are gonna flip!! My mother (who won't see me until the end of the month at my cousin's wedding) is gonna be in SHOCK! I know the cut isn't perfect (DUH!) so I'll probably go to the hairdresser sometime later this week. But for now I'm satisfied.
