I need help ladies. I had to move for awhile to the south and the humidity here is ridiculous. I can do a great twist out or wash and go and the minute I step outside I look like a wooly mammoth. Please help with humidity/anti frizz products that are good for braid outs, twist outs and wash and gos. I've never had this problem up north and it is driving me crazy.

ETA I am 4C fine/cottony

Thanks in advance!

I second what @Evolving78 stated above.

Two products that seem to be working at the moment are Mielle Pomegranate Curling Custard topped with Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker. My WNG is very defined and not frizzy. I have not tested these products over the long haul. I plan on reporting back about them in the June Hit or Miss thread.

I would twist with a butter or a heavy cream, or even gel. That will give the hair more hold. Just make sure they don’t have glycerine or make sure it’s at the bottom of the list.
I used eco styler gel and a twisting butter. That didn't work. I know eco has glycerin. I've also used only the butter and that had no glycerine. Didnt work. I need a specific targeted frizz product recommendation.

I love wooly mammoths!

Does the butter have soybeans or soy wax in it?
A loc’ing gel may help. I would use the ecostyler alone. I used loc’ing gels to do two strand twists and my hair would hold. Nothing underneath though, just the gel. I’m loc’ing my hair now and got a really nice hold with a loc’ing gel when I started them. Maybe a setting lotion (strong holding one like lottabody) May help?
All of these products claiming frizz free is a bunch of malarkey.

How would you describe your hair ?
I know this question wasn’t for me, but I have a tight coily curl pattern. My hair is fine and humidity is not my friend, so that’s why heavy creams with a lot of oil/grease or gels work to give me a good hold. I don’t have soft cotton like hair. I think cotton types will have major issues with humidity. It will behave just like a cotton or a cloud.

Ugh that's my whole issue. Mine is cottony like a cloud. Humidity is def not my friend.

I used Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai

Because hair is porous, it absorbs moisture when there is humidity in the air. Hair that is overly dry from chemically based hair treatments is particularly susceptible. (Keeping hair well moisturized can help you avoid frizz.) When hair absorbs moisture, a single strand of it forms significantly more hydrogen bonds between the keratin strands it contains. The hair essentially doubles back in on itself at a molecular level, absorbing water, forming bonds and swelling until it disrupts the cuticle, which is the smooth, outermost layer of the hair. Magnify this occurrence by an entire head of hair and the result is frizz [sources: Stromberg, Ray].

When the dew points are high and products are heavy in humectants your hair will swell.

Look for products that promote non frizzness or anti humectants.

I’m a repeater but I use this site to tell me my dew points for my area.

Here are the recommendations for a stretched styled today in my area.

I usually try to correct my porosity as well. I'm natural, fine haired, but very porous.
If I'm setting my hair in a twist or braid out, I usually use the water + aloe vera juice technique to lay those cuticles down. My hair may still swell, but it won't be AS messy

I’m type 4bc
My wash n gos last if I use
Kinky curly not today leave in with the same brand curling custard
Or
Eden body works coconut shea leave in with eco styler
My hair has to be soaking wet for the best results. I apply leave in then the gel.
I’ve never had a successful twistout or braid out.

Sabino Moisture block. I started using this on braidouts and it really helped with the humidity/frizz issue. I never used it but every blue moon before flat ironing. The instructions say you can add it to your D/c and or after you have washed before styling. I only use a little.

Any serum might work just as well.

So I want to thank you for recommending the miele curling custard. It didnt help with frizz but it was SO moisturizing. I have had a hard time finding something that really moisturized my hair and this worked. Everything else sort of just sat on top of it but this seemed the melt in. It also defined my curl. I'm going to try it on a wash and go and see how it works

Have you tried deep conditioning with heat before styling? That will make your hair uber moisturized and set a good foundation to prevent it from looking for moisture in the air. Also Alikay Naturals Lemongrass leave in and Shea Yogurt hair moisturizer is a good combo that stands against humidity and keeps twist outs defined in the worst summer heat for me.

Yes I deep condition with heat everytime. I've also used a steamer on place of the heat cap. I think it's just my cotton hair. Nothing is going to fix this hair type when it comes to bad humidity

Avoiding glycerin in my stylers/leave ins has really helped me so far this summer, I live in the south too so I know the struggle. KCCC seems to really help control the frizz and the poofiness.

Agreed. Avoid stylers with glycerin like the plague when it's humid outside. Many stylers on the market have glycerin as the second ingredient and if it's humid, your hair will poof instantly. (at least mine does)

Also you could try putting your hair in braids or twists as a protective style if the humidity is really high. I've found working with the weather and not against it to be helpful when I lived in a high humidity climate (Florida).

Hi-five! I’m happy it worked for you in a way. I would definitely put a topper(holding product) on it though.
