Sunny On a Cloudy Day
Ladies! HELP!

I am 9 weeks post. I had to cowash this morning (did not rub my scalp; just smoothed some conditioner on my hair), let it airdry and clipped up with 2 "Good Day Hair Pins" after using a moisturizing leave-in (Phyto Orgainics by Nexxus) so I could go to work without looking crazy.

After I got to work, my stylist called to tell me he could SQUEEZE me in tonight for my touch-up!

I told him what I did and his concern is I don't have any oils on my scalp, so I told him to add some when I get there.

I really, really need this touch up and it's so hard to get an appointment with him. Do you think I will be alright? I don't take a strong relaxer (I use PCJ No-Lye Childrens Formula).

my fear is if your pores are open you will burn a lot easier........mayber someone else knows a bit more than me.

The last time I got a relaxer, I had washed the night before. I didn't burn or anything, and the results were great.

GREAT! Thanks for sharing your experience! I hope I can come back and report the same thing!

I wouldn't do it. It's best to wait 3 days (or about 72 hours)

Ratz! Well, I will go see what Danny says anyway (he won't do anything to my hair if it will cause harm Thank GOD!)

Thanks for responding JLove74

Why don't you have him base your scalp before relaxing?

Hey eyunka! I guess he plans on doing something or else he wouldn't have told me to come even after I told him... :) .

Actually, I have been going to my stylist for over 20 years and he has never, ever based my scalp; he has put vaseline around my hairline area (forehead, temple and ears).

I have done this before and have never done it again. Get ready for burn city:burn: :burn: :burn:. Your pores are still open and I don't suggest that you get a touch up tonight because it could result in underprocessing due to the burning;)

:( :( :( :( :( Did you scrub your scalp with shampoo or manipulate your scalp in any way before the relaxer was applied?

I probably won't actually have relaxer applied until late in the ievening. I cowashed my hair at 5:00 AM. Would my pores still be open?

I've washed my hair right before a relaxer and have not burned. But everyone's scalp is different.

Just to be safe, he really needs to base your scalp this time.

No, I didn't do anything but wash it. Actually I washed it the night before my relaxer and my hair was on fire. I thought that my scalp was literally peeling off:eek: It wasn't,but that is what it felt like. Yes, I think your pores will still be open:confused: . I would just wait if I were you:(

BTW, my stylist based my entire scalp and it still burned. I would say that it started burning within the first few min. of her applying the relaxer. Thank God I had a short do back then...

I don't think you should have a problem since you didn't poo and you didn't scrub your scalp. Just ask him to apply some vaseline or something like that. You will be fine and the relaxer won't do harm to your hair since it's freshly conditioned. I hope it goes well.
Let us know the result.

I co-washed my hair almost four weeks ago, a day before I was supposed to get a relaxer, a co-worker advised me not to. We go to the same stylist and when we called her she refused to put the relaxer on because she said it would burn and leave scars on the scalp. Those scars can cause your hair to break off from the scalp and can damage your hair. She advised that I wait 72 hours. However, I have done it before and never felt a burn (my hair was really short then and the relaxer did not need to stay on as long as it would not now) so I say to each its own. I would not do it now because now I know what can happen and I did not know these things before.

Hello cheveux2 and the rest of you wonderful ladies that responded.
:D
Got my touch up and did not have a problem at all! As a matter of fact my hair looks great and no burning or irritation of any kind! My stylist always does a fantastic job with relaxers and tonight was no different. Didn't have to base the scalp or anything.

Thanks again for your support and quick responses. Nitey, nite!

Hi Letitia Sweetie!
Nope, not a burn or itch or twitch. I guess I have a tough scalp!

Thanks for checking on me!

Wow...I'm impressed. My scalp is ultra sensitive and I don't think I'd be able to take the pain of it...I burn on a normal day....BUT ...I'm glad it all worked out for you.

Thanks Senimoni - Perhaps it was successful because I don't scrub my scalp when I cowash, I only smooth the conditioner through the hair and then rinse. I do it several times. I also NEVER use cheapie conditioners to cowash. I use the good stuff. This morning I used NEXXUS Phyto Organics Humectin Conditioner and the NEXXUS Luxxtress Leave In.

My stylist also uses NEXXUS products and after my touch up he used the NEXXUS Botanoil as a finisher.
