HELP! debating to weave or not to weave

Hi, I'm new to LHCF and I am looking to give my hair a rest. I did the whole braids thing and had a difficult time detangling post removal. I was thinking of doing a partial weave on the bottom half of my head and trimming off all the breakage..try to do the whole layering look and keep it in pony. Is this a good plan? I was thinking of a fusion weave.. how long does it last? and what are the pros and cons of getting one? I'm thinking to keep it till X-mas.
