Hello ladies of LHCF I have a question for relaxed ladies that braid their hair

I have had my hair in braids for almost 11 weeks (I do rebraid them when they look fuzzy) I'm going to remove them over the weekend do you ladies think its a good idea for me to relax my hair right after I remove the braids?

I've always heard that it's better to give your hair a break- about a week- before relaxing. But when I used to relax, I'd wash and DC my hair (while in braids) a week before taking it out and then relax the day after. My hair seemed fine with that but it might not work for someone else.

Maybe I will try it that way because I want to relax my hair as soon as I remove these braids... Thank u

Don't the instructions on the box usually say you should wait a week? I reckon those instructions are there for a reason.... why risk it???

But what do I know, I'm not relaxed anyhoo.

I'm not relaxed but I think its a good idea to give your hair some moisturising, strenghening treatments for at least a week or two before you relax.

Everyone's hair is different, it worked for me but might not work for you. see what the condition of your hair is after taking out the braids before deciding when to relax. Have a backup style in case you'd feel more comfortable waiting.

I'm not relaxed but I heard my hair dresser say to a client that had braids to wait a week before she got a relaxer. She said the tension on the hair from the braids weakens it. I also had a friend get a relaxer right after braids. Her hair, which was normally thick, looked really thin and I could see her scalp. Not to scare you or anything, but I would wait a week though.

I'm relaxed and I think you should let your hair and scalp "rest" :) after being in those braids. I'm thinking that your scalp may be a little sensitive and relaxing so soon after could be irritaing and/or painful. A week should be good enough time.

When I used to wear braids, I would always wait a minimum of two weeks prior to getting a touch up.

After I take down my braids, I would give myself a good protein treatment and wait at least a week to relax. Braids tend to dry out and weaken the hair. You need a week of care to strengthen it up a bit

you should definatly give ur hair some resting time.
there has been tension from the braids on ur scalp and you should give it some healing time.
give urself a nice DC and maybe even a protein treatment.
but most importantly listen to you hair. setting time limits is not always wise because from personal experience sometimes i need more than a week to 'recover' from my braids. HTH

I do nearly the same exact thing. I make sure to deep condition my hair in braids every two weeks and especially the week prior to taking them out. Normally, I relax my hair the next day after removal. I just make sure to base my scalp very well prior to going to my stylist and then she uses Affirm fiberguard and this kit has base and a protectant for the previously relaxed hair, so I try to minimize any undue harm. I might add that I don't have a sensitive scalp so if you do, you might want to wait a week OP.

The stress of the braids and the detangling process on your real hair should be evident when you try to manipulate your hair after braid removal. If your hair feels weak, snaps easily when a strand is pulled, then I would wait at least 1-2 weeks before I had a relaxer. Only relax hair with integrity.

I don't have a sensitive scalp but I don't want my hair to break or thin out anymore than it already is by relaxing so soon after the braids are remove I'm going to wait a few days before i relax it...

Yes, wait at least a week. Taking braids out is a lot of manipulation on your scalp. Not a good idea to put a chemical on right away. Also, were you doing protein treatments in braids? You should always do a protein a few days before relaxing - braids or not.
