Heat Protection

I just tried African Pride Heat Protector Spray and it worked just fine (and has great herbal ingredients) but let me tell you, it smells like a combination of dirt and dog breath! I bought it from a small BSS with not a whole lot of inventory so it might just be old. I continued to use it with my bumping iron and thank God my hair didn't absorb the odor but I'm thinking that it just ain't right.

Do many hair care products have a short shelf life?
Any recommendations for a good thermal protection product?

ROBIN,

let me tell you i had ordered that stuff last month, along with some motions salon sheen, and fantasia serum.

when i used it the first time i used it for blow drying. i sprayed in on my damp hair on one section and my hair came out very silky looking by it does not give me enough moisture. the best heat protectant so far was and is pink oil moisturizer (please don't hate me for this) i know a lot of ladies hate that stuff.

i agree with you on the smell. but you are right the hair do not keep the smell. i will continue using it though cause it is a ok product but won't buy it again.
i think as a heat protectant (this is just my expierence) and for my hair type a creamy lotion is better.

Well I just started using New Image DAmage Free Thermal Protective Conditioner after hearing so many raves on this board. Its now .99 cents at Sally's because its being discontinued so now is a good time to try it before it goes for good.

So far I really like it. I use it before rollarsetting. My hair came out a bit fuller and smooth. Its a creamy texture too which I like and doesn't weigh the hair down. It sounds very very good because its supposed to really 'treat' the hair while protecting it and so far I do like /images/graemlins/cool.gif Do a search under the words New Image to pull up previous conversations about it.

I also have Phyto Heat Protective Spray which is pretty good but that's a watery fine mist type leave in. The New Image can apparently be used on dry or wet hair.

The New Image Damage Free thermal protectant(recommended by Valleygirl) is good. You can get it a Sally's for .99. The problem is they are discontinuing that line. But if you like it you can always go back and stock up. I love it unfortunately my 'nose' doesn't(allergies)...so I haven't been able to use it anymore. I gave it to my niece who loves it.

NAY007: Thanks for confirming the smell - it's not just me! I agree with ya, I'll continue to use the African Pride but probably won't buy it again. I haven't used the pink stuff in years but I don't recall having a problem with it. If my hair would grow out half as lovely as yours, I'd try just about anything. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

BRH: What I like about the African Pride product is that you can use it on wet or dry hair so the Phyto Heat Protectant sounds like a good alternative. Thanks.

SweetCocoa: Thanks for the allergy warning on the New Image product (I'm an allergy-sufferer too).

Thanks again, ladies.

where are the people in nyc finding sallys? i didnt even know they had one. if i did i would live in there. i wont be near a sallys till about two weeks and i dont know if they will still have this heat protectant by then. where is sallys in nyc or are people getting others to buy it?????? /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/confused.gif God bless you all.

I *think* its Elmhurst in Queens which is where I went.

I've never been to Sally's before so it was my first time. I think its the nearest one to me. Its approx 25 mins drive from home or less actually depending on traffic.

Hi Azul,

What borough do you live in? I know there is a Sally's in the bronx and the one that brownrelaxed hair mentioned that is in Elmhurst Queens that i go to. To get to the one in queens take the Q58 or Q59 bus (both of which make stops in brooklyn also) and get off near 74th street and grand avenue. Those buses can be acessed near the grand avenue subway station (G,R,V lines)on queens blvd. The store is located in a small shopping center directly next to a buffet restaraunt. get off at the the bus stop near the amaco station and blockbuster the next block up. hope this helps /images/graemlins/wink.gif

i'm in manhattan. i never knew there was a sallys in nyc. i guess they dont have as much because there are so many small time bss around. i'll have to check this out because it will be two weeks till i will be near a sallys and i am sure by the time i go to get the stuff it will be all gone. that sucks they are discontinuing it. i wonder why. God bless you all.
