Healthy Locs Support Thread 2013

I figured it was probably time for me to update my avatar and siggie pics to reflect my current Loc'd do'

I've been loc'd for about 15 months now. I started mine with two-strand twists. I have combined MANY locs over the course of my journey. I started out with around 175 locs and now have under 110 but more than 100. I am loving every minute of my loc journey and regret not starting it sooner

I retwist my roots about once every 2 months. I currently use Taaliah Waajid 'Lock it up' to retwist. Prior to this i was using jojoba oil and water only. I wash my hair with Trader Joes Nourish Spa shampoo. Every so often i will spritz Infusium 23 leave-in on my locs. Daily, i spritz my hair with a mist of plain water and i rub in a small amount of jojoba oil. I try to keep diligent about wearing a scarf at night.

I loved our 2012 thread, let's keep it going!

Post a pic, comment, suggestion, advice, regi, products, styles or anything that will help support and encourage those on their journey!

Hoping all the ladies with locs join in and we can support and advise each other :)

:hiya: I haven't changed my regimen by much. I just twist my hair less often, like every other month. I realized that my roots were weakening when I twisted my locs too often.
I just wash, condition, spray a mix of oils and leave-in conditioner now. If I'm in the mood, I'll braid them and unravel them after two days to get the crinkled look.
Right now I have a mini Afro at the base of my locs. I'll try to post a pic next time I wash them. :yep:

Things are still going well with me.

Just passed one year loc'd and I'm soooooo happy!

A few years ago, I NEVER would've thought I'd have natural hair, let alone locs. But I'm really pleased with the decision.

I've always been style challenged, even when I had natural hair. My hair is also at an awkward length and I don't know what to do but pull it back with hair pins.

I forgot about this thread. I no longer have locs. I combed them out and I'm back to the afro. I loved them but it was time to move on.

I've not been up in the healthy locs threat recently but wanted to chime in.

I've had Sisterlocks for 3.5 years now. Not only do I have them, but I also am close to becoming a Certified Consultant.

Anywho, back in February I decided to extend them to what I call "Fantasy Length". (Pic 1 & 2). This was a very long task.

Now I'm thinking about taking them or most of them down. After all these years (regarding my crown area) I'm still scalpy and CAN NOT STAND MY GRID!!!!!! (pic 3 current; pic 4 first year) <vent> I usually never retighten my hair to the scalp because I am so sensitive about my thin crown; lately the new growth looked dry and brillo'y to me.

This morning, I decided to flat iron both my new-growth and the locs. For some reason the smooth new growth made the sparseness of the crown more tolerable to me. Of course I moisturized my hair first.

I'll decide in September/October, till then I'll just keep trying different techniques to suppress the urge.

I guess the purpose of this post would be to say that sometimes if you're feeling discouraged about the looks of your locs, it is helpful to experiment.

My locs are finally beginning to actually look like locs . Just about everyday someone asks me if they're twists or locs. I just re-tightened on Sunday after not re-tightening for over 2 months.

ETA: pics are attached although it's poor quality, I took them with my phone.

Changed my avatar to show my latest length.
As I've been natural long before I had locs I'm used to thickness. I don't like the way my locs just hang straight.
So I either have it up in updos/ponys or in cornrows/braids, and then wear it down curly.

I love the curly look on you! I can't wait to have that length. I almost always have an up-do because I have an awkward length.

Wore my hair down today and got so many compliments. My hair is almost always up in a style or a bun.

I really miss my locs & I'm thinking about locing again next year. I just want my hair to grow a little longer. I hated that "teenage" stage.
