It seems like a lot of people benefit from cowashing. My hair seems to be doing okay from frequent co washing but I want to know the pros and cons on long term cowashing, especially with fine hair. Have they helped improve your hair?

With fine hair, your hair may get mushy quicker than the thicker hair ladies. So, if you find it getting to stretchy then that means you need to do a protein treatment ASAP.:yep:

my hair LOVES moisture, so the bi-daily cowashing i've been doing has been great. and i have fine strands.

be careful; if your hair doesn't like a lot of manipulation (washing, rubbing, etc.) it may not be fore you.

I learned the hard way about maintaining a moisture and protein balance.
Through my constant cowashing my hair got mushy and broke a lot because i wasn't using enough protein to re-inforce the strands to withstand the manipulation and moisture.

i think cowashing for some is awesome, but you just have to play it by ear and keep a close watch on your hair's look and feel.

I have fine hair and I am addicted to daily co-washing. After every co-wash, I check the condition of my hair to determine if it needs a moisturizing conditioner (B&B w/castor) or something w/a little protein (MNT). Afterwards I seal with castor oil.

I have been doing this for about a year and I am able to do this daily because I wear my hair in a pony tail to work. If I were to style it daily, I don't think I could do it.

During the Xmas holidays, I stayed w/my Mom and couldnt co-wash daily. I was styling my hair ( w/my new CHI  ) and we were constantly on the go. My hair was a mess for those 10 days.

This works for me. Good luck...:yep:

I cowash 3-4 times per week. Since I do a henna treatment weekly, I don't have any problems with mushy hair. Luckily also, I don't have any protein/moisture balance issues. My reggie includes overnight oil prepoos, so I have to wash often during the week.

The undamaged parts of my hair is in better overall condition than it has ever been, and the reggie helps to hide the severe damage that it has sustained.

I dont cowash daily, however I do cowash to cleanse my hair since I no longer use shampoo. I love the results of cowashing and dont think I will ever give it up. I think the key to cowashing is finding a conditioner that works. I use to cowash with cheapies and my hair hated it.

only complaint i have about co-washing is it has made my nails soft. and i don't take vitamins consistently, nor do i take very good care of my nails. :perplexed

as far as hair - mine LOVES co-washing!

***ETA: sorry i missed the part about fine hair. my hair is thick. but still i do protein treatments to ensure strength and ward of "mushiness"

I dont have fine hair. When I co-wash daily, my hair stayed a tangled. I just barely managed to comb through it and put it into a bun.

I co-wash daily now (V05 Silk Protiens conditioner) and wear my hair in a wash n' go style daily. I also wore wash n' go puffs as a natural.

My hair has never felt more moisturized than it does now (texlaxed) and even as a natural. Co-washing, followed by leaving in my condition/water/coconut oil mix leaves my strands soft and supple.

The only "con" I can see to co-washing is that your hair may not be getting enough of the natural oils your scalp produces because you're washing it everyday (or at least that's in my case). My question is, is this is problem?

I haven't had any problems but I don't do it Daily, I do it like 2-3 times a week and I have learned that the cheapies don't work well for me, I use to love suave Milk n honey or the Coconut, but they never made a difference in the softness, so I tried Jessicurl's Too Shea Moisturizing Conditioner and that made all the difference in the world, My hair is soft and feels so good, it is expensive and I don't have to use it much and it works great for me.

I tried co-washing daily but haven't found a way to make it work for me consistently yet. The conditioner seems to build up on my hair and my hair felt drier and coated, instead of moisturized and supple. It may be that I haven't tried the right conditioner. I do wash and condition every day or every other day and has been working for me.

Co-washing once and sometimes twice a week is perfect for my fine hair. This does not include my poo wash and deep conditioner days. It does not get weighed down this way and I do use expensive brands as well as the cheapies. It depend on whether or not I want a cone and paraben free conditioner or one that has them.

My relaxed hair responds well to all of them but I don't go very long without clarifying my hair either, which is every 2 to 3 weeks with Mizani Puriphyl shampoo. My hair is growing very well now that I started using my F.A.S.T shampoo and conditioner again. I love the way this combo makes my hair feel. I even co-wash with my F.A.S.T conditioner - 12oz bottle is about $15.

I have been cowash daily since around May. Right now I am using Jason Apricot Keratin conditioner, then I apply Salerm and BBD glass and let it airdry. My hair is much more moisturized this winter than it was last winter.

it didn't hurt my hair but it did mess with my scalp. it just didn't get it clean. then i heard someone advise shampoo is strictly for your scalp and conditioner purely for your hair. i decided to stop co-washing and shampoo every 7-10 days instead otherwise i would be dealing with a very dirty scalp. baking soda & avc rinses don't work that well for me. with avc, i have to rub it all over my head and then leave it for a good one hour. i cant just pour a cup of it all over my head whilst in the shower and call it a day. it's too much hassle.

No problems so far co washing daily since last April. My hair drys fairly quickly. I switch back & forth between a moisturizing cheapie & a protein cheapie. If my hair starts to feel coated I clarify & I also use poo every 7-10 days.

I also love coWashing. I don't have the manipulation problems most of the time because when I wash...my hair is in either box braids ore twists...so I don't loose strands. Well...I may lose 2 or 3...but that's it.

I don't often use shampoo anymore. Since I have been doing mainly cowashes, my scalp has been in perfect condition and my hair stays moisturized. It has been great for me. I keep up on my protein/moisture balance so I don't get the mushy thing.

I co wash about every 3 to 4 days, lately I've been going as long as a week. I think it has improved the condition of my hair. I also henna so the added moisture of the co wash is a nice benefit.

I CW daily, the only conditioner that seems to soften and detangle is Sally's Moisturizing Treatment. CW with it daily, when i'm done I put a little vatika oil on my scalp to help w/ the nature oil progression, since i'm washing my hair daily.

As expensive as it is, I co wash daily with a dab of Aveda Dry Remedy Intensive Reconstructor. A little bit does go a long way. Using this I dont have to use different conditioners as I think this has the perfect mix for my hair. I will co wash daily until it starts to get cold here in Maryland/Wva.

I co-wash sometimes 3-5x a week. My hair texture and quality improved in a short amount of time. I stopped co-washing regularly and my hair started to become dry--it could be because it is summer also. I used to use cheapies often but now I stick with natural products/organic or professional/salon conditioners to co-wash with and there is even more improvement in my hair quality.

The main problem I experienced was tangles especially when the new growth gets past 8 weeks--Wheww!!!(My hair is thick). Since you are fine-haired, maybe don't detangle everyday--only you know your hair.
* Another con protein/moisture balance--I would co-wash at least once a week with Mane N Tail Moisturizing & Texturizing Conditioner to keep protein in.
* Going through a ton of conditioner.
