Have you found what's been destroying your hair? And hindering progress?

I guess this is a rant, but I realized what has been screwing up my ends. That cheap @#$^!!!! flat iron!

I mean it's not cheap but it's not the salon ones either. The Jilbere Porcelain flat iron, I was flat ironing my hair today and noticed it really wasn't smoothing my ends just sucks, it's hot but that's about it, I think i need to get a better flat iron.

Do you ladies have anything that you finally realized was not good for your hair?

I know when I was using my gold and hot flat iron with the comb attachement my flat irons were in better condition. It was cheap too but better on my ends.

I have been staying away from the flat iron except when i use it on my roots, but I really see that they are not good for the hair and some are worse than others.

sigh.

Girl me toooooooo! I just cut it Saturday. I was going to go to the salon and I just thought... uhhh no ma'am! And I did it myself. It's far from perfect but hey.... I didn't have to pay for it! lol

Another thing that hinders me is that my hair stops responding to things. Even with clarifying.... :nono: So I'm trying to keep it simple.

Using harsh relaxers.:yep: They would leave my hair underprocessed and then I would do correctives WAY too soon. (This was before LHCF) My Aunt suggested that I used Just For Me and I'm in love! No more harsh relaxers for me.

the comb i've been using for the past 3 weeks has been breaking my hair something fierce. i broke it in half yesterday and threw it in the trash so i am back to my wide tooth comb. i go to my stylist tomorrow and she will dust my ends so its kinda like a fresh start.

yeah I have to switch my products alot too, it's like the hair becomes immune to stuff.

oh yeah what you said, dr. miracles brought me down.

yes, while my hair has grown, extensions raged a war on my hairline (despite taking precautions). Extensions (braids, weave) are not for me, and for now I'll be focusing on nursing it back to health while learning and loving my natural hair.

When I realized I had to UN-learn how to handle my hair. So many things that are accepted as care for "black hair" is just myths or outdated traditions.

It is OK not to grease my scalp.

Its OK not to lather up twice.

Its OK to regularly enough so the rinse water is not discolored.

Its OK to add moisturizer to my hair.

Its OK for me not to take the advice of black hair magazines that feaure models and stars that only wear weaves.

Its NOT OK to scarfice my hair or scalp health for the sake of getting my money worth from a braid or weave style.

Once I FORGOT everything I thought I knew for sure about "Black Hair"....my hair thrived!

We are >>>>>>>right here<<<<<<<<< I am struggling to NOT put a weave in my head... I can see the damage that weaves had done to my hairline, and it is NOT cute. But I just can't resist the siron song of Freetress....

lol at freetress. I had no idea that weaves can damage your edges. every dang thing is damaging goodness. can't do nothing. afros' are probably damaging.

I forgot that I have to handle my hair like old lace - no pulling, tugging, twisting, yanking - no matter how strong it is, and esp. when it's wet. *sigh* I'm heavy-handed, that's my problem.

Hey, CB, I've been using my bone comb...and I love it. I can use it on dry hair and I also use it in the shower to detangle. You can find out more about it here.

Also, what I've learned recently is that I have hard water. And since I've been clarifying more frequently, my hair has been breaking a lot less, and it's been less dry and softer. Now I see why my hair was breaking like crazy during the summer.

I saw another member's post about clarifying every week; and I've adapted that to my regimen. It's working well for me. But I co-wash first; and do only one lather.

Afros are... your ends are exposed to the elements. And you have to pick them out which also can be damaging. :yep:

Shampoos were destroying my hair. Relaxers.... OMG. Those killed my hair. I wish I had someone that knew what the HELL they were doing.

Oh well. I am Better off now.

stylists:look:

i have a spot that broke off from my hairdresser pressing it, she burnt it off.

and i have another spot where the relaxer wasnt washed out properly.

from now, I', just gonna do my own relaxers. I'll let the dominicans do my rollersets but no ones doing my relaxers except me.
