I'm struggling with my ends :( They keep getting long and stringy. I'm assuming I am not taking good care of them :(
I'm debating on just cutting off a good 3 inches and starting again.

Anyone just cut it all off and was it worth it? Did it help bring ur hair back to shape?

Thanks:D

yep, I did a major cut back in January. I got about 2.5 inches cut off. At first I didn't want to do it, but that cut was sooooo worth it. My ends looked so much better. Before getting the cut, I would wear my hair in a wrap and while wrapped, I would have so many lil hairs just stickin up outa nowhere....I thought it was normal. But after I got my cut, my hair looked so much better while wrapped. It was smooth and sleek with no ugly looking ends. My hair was barely shoulder length after my cut, but I have since grown it back to the length it was before my cut, which is a little bit below shoulder length.

Yes, recently, I was nearing waist length and cut it to just above brastrap. I was contemplating it for a long time, my middle was very thin. Now it feels and looks so much healthier, and Im not as bothered about length as I am about health. I have decided to wear it up more though, and wear it down occasionally to prevent wear and tear. Look in my lonei3 album.

I did a cut before I went heat free in June to get rid of the heat damaged ends. I have been heat free for almost 3 months--my hair never looked better overall and my ends cosntantly behave.

I've had several huge cuts in my lifetime... too many to count. People think I'm addicted to cutting... maybe I am? LOL.

My most recent one was when I cut my hair from APL to chin length last year in April and got VERY short bangs that were high above my eyebrows. I wanted more of my hair to be bangs but the stylist didn't feel it would look right. She didn't even want to cut my hair b/c according to her, it didn't look damaged, but with some minor splits. But when it comes to growing my hair, I'm sort of a perfectionist and wanted it all off instead of just cutting the small patches of hair where there were splits, plus I had heat damage too.

Before that I had cut it to ear length. I'm never afraid of cuts. It kinda feels exhilarating and like I'm a new person! Everyone always loves it too (except my mother). Plus, I know that a cut always means healtheir hair and I love that 10x more than longer hair. :yep: This is usally my main motivation behind cutting & I'd never believed the myth that hair didn't grow back-- mine always did. Then I love the growing out process too! :)

This time, I'm trying to go all the way, but I'm gonna cut some inches off the front to match my now chin-length bangs. :ohwell:

I had about 2 inches cut off not too long ago...part of it was the evil works of a scissor happy stylist  (how does this happen you say...well i was watching the 40 Yr Old Virgin on my portable dvd and looked down for 5 minutes...yes thats all it took). The other part is that i probably needed it. It was worth it but i wont be doing it again for awhile.

Back in 1995 my hair was broken off and I chopped all off to halle berry pixie cut to start all over. Then in 2000 my hair was bra strap and I chopped it to about neck length because ends were frizzy.
Then in 2004 I was bra strap again and chopped off about 4 inches because overprocessed relaxer.

right before i joined LHCF, i cut off about 3 inches. the back of my hair was see through - too much flat ironing and blow drying.

I just did on Tuesday, and I dont think you guys will be happy with me.
Here are my updated pics (from NJPAC on Thursday 8/17/06). I'm on the left in the first pic:)

Here's a pic of my hair before I started gradually chopping it off (this was in April 06. it was at brastrap at that time)

i was at NYPac yesterday too :D

i like the cut. it's cute on you.

Chestnut, your hair was pretty long, but you look absolutely stunning with the short cut! It brings out your features!

To answer the topic question, yes I've done a major cut a few times during my hair journey. It seems like a huge deal at the time, but after it's done, it's so worth it.

I started going to a hair stylist in January who over-processed my hair (I didn't realize it for a few months) and it began to look thin and limp. The only thing I could think to do to revitalize it was cut it. It was past my shoulders in length and three weeks ago, I cut it into a layered cut just below my ears. The difference is amazing. It looks so much healthier which I value more than the length that I had. I would definitely do it again.

Really pretty :) Your hair cut looks really good on you.

I went back to a short cut twice to get rid of damage. The first cut was way more beneficial than the second one. I had a whole healthy new head of hair. I grew my hair out to shoulder length. The second cut we couldn't really get the breakage to stop. It grew back but it stayed the same length for a long time. Since I've started taking care of it myself it's been growing.

yeah I have.

right before beginning my haircare journey, went to the salon and asked for a trim and she must have cut about 3 whole inches. I really don't think I needed to have that much cut, but I was just excited to START a haircare journey and take my hair to new lengths, I didn't mind much.

I had another one this past May, about 3 months ago. My hair was 3 inches from waist, but the ends were really bad. The damage that started happening got worse in ONE weekend, on an overnight trip, with me trying to look cute:lol: but I loooooved it after, although I was kinda sad that she cut so much b/c it basically will take me until the end of the year to be where I wanted to be had she cut what I had asked.

My hair looks so much thicker and i'm looking to keep it that way. starting with my touchup tomorrow, I will be prepooing and overmoisturizing!

I just got 1.5- 2 inches cut off in July for the same reason, and my hair is much healthier already. Maybe you don't need as much cut off as you think. :)

I'm debating on how much to cut off when I do my next retouch. I'm thinking 2 inches.

YES !

Right now I have my hair cut and will keep it kinda short for a little time until it regains its thickness. The back is the top of my neck if that and sides are to my chin. Everyone loves the cut, but I did it b/c I went through a really bad bout of shedding and lost A LOT of my hair's thickness and life :( so I figured why not start over ;)

I Cut About 3" Off In June And My Hair Hasn't Looked Or Felt Better:) I'm Hoping To Be Bra Strap And Then Some By My B-Day:D (Crossing My Fingers)Pic In My Siggy Is From My Mini Chop In June

I did my first major cut in 1999. My hair was past BSL and I used to wear a rollerset with the small rollers (with spiral curls) all the time. I ran into a stylist that used to do my hair in college and we were at a party where a lot of her clients were. Everyone there had heads of healthy hairs!:) I went by her shop and she told me that even though my hair was long it was broken off in several places and just needed a MAJOR cut to start all over.

I resisted at first and was so nervous, but then I let her cut it to chin length and I really loved the feeling of thickness I got and the chance to start all over again. After that, I would cut it occasionally (back to chin length again) whenever I wanted a change of pace.

I BC'd for the 2nd time on my 1 yr anniversary last April. Took some getting used to since I never had my hair that short before but it was so worth it, my hair feels almost silky now. It was damaged from hair dye

Major cut of 2.5 - 3 inches in July 2005 by a really good CIBU / BUBBLES Senior Artistic hair designer to start the "growing long hair process". Best thing I could have ever done was to get that professional major cut. Totally revived my hair ! :)

I wouldn't call it major, but I just cut my hair from bra-strap to armpit on Thursday. So I guess that's what... 2 inches? I still need to get the nape of my hair and cut it down a lot because it's split and knotted and crazy right now. I had to because my ends are just frizzy and split and ugly. I was really contemplating doing about 6 inches. But I changed my mind. For the last four days I have been wearing a flat-ironed braid out, my ends have barely tangled, so far, so good. Tomorrow is the last day, I'm washing it on Wednesday. I will try to cover my ends more since they are suffering in a major way.
