Have any of you ever tried using a raw egg as a protein treatment?

I have a few in my refrigerator that have passed the expiration date and this seems like it would be a good use for them!

So I'm wondering whether this even works or not

There was a thread here a while back about mixing an egg in with Cholesterol Treatment and Oil (EVOO, I think?).

I bought the Cholesterol Treatment (haven't tried it, or the Egg).

I’ve never used raw egg but I’ve heard that it’s not a good experience. Rinsing can be a pain and any heat involved might leave you with unexpected results.
By "unexpected results" I'm sure it's possible that I could end up with scrambled eggs in my hair!

My mother used to crack a raw egg and put it in my hair when I was a kid to condition it. I don’t remember any benefits of it though.

Maybe you can try purchasing egg powder and creating a DIY conditioner. I’ve seen egg powder as the ingredient for some deep conditioners.

Yep, that is what I’ve heard.
It was in a book by Beverly Cleary (one of the Beezus books): the girl did it at school with warm water, and had to have chunks of cooked egg removed from her hair by the school nurse.

I only did this with henna, for ease in washing out due to the yolks years ago. (No risk of 'cooking' since you're beating it into the mix and leaving for dye release.)
I only did this till I found out about coconut milk making it easy to rinse out AND helping with dye release ( from an article by Curly Nikki.)

That lady.. Shahnaz Hussain.. an indian lady who sells kohl and other things, all about Ayurveda for decades..she has a ginormous mane .. A bit much imo.

She used to say in magazine columns and interviews that she used multiple eggs plus yogurt... in every (monthly) henna ....

as well as just eggs with olive oil as a weekly protein treatment. She wrote repeatedly of this for years. Her hair looked quite protein-loaded...powerful...ready to kill an innocent passerby even.

So it definitely works to some extent. In all her magazine columns and writing and interviews...she brought up her egg masks. Her daughter used it too. They both had intimidating lionesque manes, bristling with confidence.

I have no desire to have scrambled egg in my hair . There are plenty of other protein products to use on hair

Yes, I've used eggs plenty of times. I've usually mixed an egg with honey and EVOO. I've even done it with plain, full fat yogurt. I keep it on my hair uncovered and ALWAYS rinse with cold water to avoid cooking the egg. My hair always felt stronger. I don't prefer strong protein txs though, so I ended up moving on to other protein txs that were milder (homemade amino acid tx, plain full fat yogurt alone or Motions CPR). Also, I prefer to use heat when I DC and that would not have worked well with eggs. Lol.

I think it's a good DC to use in a pinch, especially when it's balanced with honey and a oil. GL to you if you do try it! :)

Very descriptive of the condition of their hair! I love the word "lionesque".
