Has Your Hair Changed Color With Age?

When I was younger my hair was redder. It was medium brown with alot of natural red streaks throughout. Now I have to henna to get that look. My hair is definetly a darker brown now than it was when I was a child. White people are not the only ones whose hair color changes as they become adults. I bet more people will post...

 My eyes are still dark as night though....snap

From birth through the teens, my hair was golden-blonde. from my twenties until now, it has gradually gone to dark, dish-water blonde. Now I color my hair red (henna).

Mine has gotten darker.
I had my dad's colors when I was a little one, really fair skin and blond hair.
As I've gotten older both my hair and skin is getting darker.

No, I don't mean going gray. :lachen:

My hair has always been jet black. Ink black. Blue-black. Naturally.

My mother, who has naturally brown/auburn hair (with freckles and warm brown eyes to match) had dark hair too until she reached twenty two years of age. I just turned 22.

Now...my hair...from the roots...is turning chocolate brown/auburn. As I think about it...it's been doing so for a while. I just used demi colors when I noticed it chalking it up to natural highlights.

Had I not done this the last year...I would 7 inches of auburn/cinnamon-y hair. This would be during the time I was natural as well, so it couldn't be caused by over processing.

I'm use to inky black hair...I don't know if I like this. :ohwell:

My eyes are starting to lighten slightly too...which also happened to her at this age (or perhaps the hair change is bringing out colors in them to the naked eye that were more easily missed before). I also freckle easily and stay out of the sun as I burn easily, which she does also.

Has this happened to ANYONE else?!

Does hair really change colors with age?

I've seen this in my friends, but none of them are Black/African-American (though this may not be related to ethnicity at all, I wouldn't know) and as to them I'm some magical creature when it comes to hair (my late afro had them staring in wonder) I'm not sure I can count on their advice. :lachen:

Ugh, this is happening to me too. I used to have this gorgeous, shiny black hair, and now it's almost completely brown, with red highlights on the underside. I miss my old color so much, but my mother forbids me from coloring my hair.

My sister's hair, on the other hand, has gotten slightly darker; she used to be very blond, but now has a mixture of sandy brown, dirty blond, and platinum in the front.

I don't know why it happens, either way :spinning:

I was born with brown hair. I pretty much have always had a little sandy red to it, but as a teen I went through a phase where my hair seemed to be black like my paternal side unless you held it up to light. During my last natural stint it went back to a dark brown with subtle sandy-red tones from my maternal side. It hasn't changed yet. I sometimes wonder if I will take after my maternal great grandma whose hair got lighter and lighter with age.

OT I like and subscribed to your blog. :yep: Didn't realize you relaxed.

As a child I had blonde/light brown hair like my dad (his nickname is "Red"). Then as I got older my hair darkened, but now its lightening up again. Even "Red" comments that my hair is getting lighter. :lachen:

no

but

i'm transitioning...I notice that all of my new growth is like black and my relaxed hair is a medium brown...so the relaxer changed the color of my hair wihout the assistance of haircolor.......hummm...

My hair colour changes by season, in the summer it gets lighter, the sun will bleach out my hair no matter how moisturised my hair is..The front has always been a lighter blondy , gingery colour..and the back a mousy brown.. When I was relaxing the chemicals somehow enhanced the different colours... Now its winter its not as noticeable unless I flat iron.

My hair used to be jet/blue black when I was a kid too but as I've gotten older it's a dark brown ashish color. I don't know if it's age or years of relaxer usage.
