I can just answer for the FHI Runway. The 6 ceramic plates have been discontinued. I heard it was too much labor and too expensive for the demand they saw for it in the market.

What the feezy!!!!! My dream flat iron disappeared!!! Crap!!! I was gonna save 4 one of those bad boys next summer......FML......even though im sad OP thanks 4 bringing this up I had no idea!

You can get an Amika from select vendors for $50 and free shipping on Amazon. It has solid ceramic plates and ordinarily can go for as much as $250.

Wow! I’m surprised they discounted it as I thought the demand outstripped their supply…..Probably another victim of the recession.

Yes it's discontinued. BUT FHI Heat will come out with the Runway 2 in Feb 2010. THe H2Pro 206LE (with white plates) is the same as the original Runway.

6 plates? I'm confused, what's that?

The FHI Runway and the H2Pro 206LE have 6 100% pure ceramic plates... versus say 1 or 3 ceramic plates; or ceramic coated plates. I'll find the info I posted in another thread.

ETA:

I found a bit more info for the person who asked about the differences in irons. http://www.grandperfumes.com/how-to-use-a-flat-iron

Flat Iron

Flat Irons are modern hair straighteners that has a heating element, like a heating plate on either side, made up of ceramic materials, aluminium, Nano silver, Titanium Oxide, Tourmaline, Iron etc, cased in a plastic holder with a plastic or rubber handle. It comes in various vibrant and cool colors and also in various sizes according to the person’s kind and volume of hair. It is highly efficient, safe and quicker than the hot combs or heated rods. They are used to style hair to make them straight, curly, straight pony, bun, upsweep etc. Thermal Protectors are used to protect hair from harsh effects of high temperature.

Ceramic Flat Iron

Ceramic flat Irons are hair straighteners which use ceramic heaters, on either side of the clamp, which is mixed with materials like titanium and tourmaline to boost the output. Most ceramic flat irons are made with aluminum or titanium coated with ceramic layers. More the ceramic layers, more flexible it is to use according to the need and style and more precise to choose the temperatures. But such Flat Irons might damage the hair if the ceramic layer is worn out.

Despite being expensive, it is beneficial to use pure ceramic Iron, provided it is handled carefully. Invisible Infrared rays are used in all ceramic flat irons that employ far infrared heating. Nano materials like Nano silver to inhibit bacterial growth, Nano titanium for even heat distribution in hair and Nano titanium oxide to inhibit chemical reactions are added to the ceramic layer. Tourmaline is also added to boost negative ion output to produce smooth and sleek hair styles.

LOL! No problem. My stylist told me when he was testing the Runway 2 prototype. Their salon doesn't even have any original Runways for sale anymore; just the platforms.

oo--well that i will eagerly anticipate your review. i might get the h2pro as well....i just wont tell the fiance (shhhh)

I thought they were having issues with the quality of the FHI Runway irons when they switched manufacturers. Looks like they may be making a better one...

Thanks! It's a shame about the Runway though...I didn't know the hardware problems were THAT bad, but I just read a few reviews and there was a whole slew of issues with the iron (for some people).

This must not be the one I was told will be released in Feb 2010. Because 3 layers won't cut it for that price IMO.

I recommend the Hana Elite as well.
