Hard Protein

If I had breakage and I used a light/medium protein regularly wouldn't it eventually have the same effect as if I had used a hard protein?

I don't think so, but maybe some of the other ladies will chime in. It does equate to me that regular light/medium protein = hard protein.

If this was the case, there wouldn't be a purpose for hard protein. For breakage, you need the hard protein which will work from the cuticle to the cortex of the hair. The light/medium protein can be found in shampoos, conditioners, and reconstructors. They just aid in protecting the hair strand along with moisturizing it as well.

I don't think so, because the effects of protein treatments are not permanent, so the light/med protein wouldn't build up to a hard protein.

Like the others, I don't think they can be compared. Personally I choose regular use of a light protein (GPB/Emergencee) over use of a hardcore protein (Aphogee) because I find the "balance" of moisture/protein of the light protein is kinder to my hair and therefore safer for me.

I read a long time that dangers of pure protein is if it is not balanced with moisture then it can lead to hair breaking from being hard/stiff. I read that they are better left to the experts in salons. Granted, that's not true about the experts being in salons or it being true for all, but I took heed to that info and have always just used reconstructors (protein+moisture in one) and I use them weekly and my hair does well with them. I never find myself having to worrying about mushy hair or hard hair or wondering whether I have struck the right moisture/protein balance.

If the hard protein is equal to regular light proteins, I wouldn't have had a few setbacks in 2010. I used the light proteins regularly (in rotation with the moisturizing conditioners) most of 2010. I still saw WAY more hairs when I finger combed. I didn't do a hard protein until it was time to relax after 3 month stretches. Well, I started doing the hard proteins every 6 weeks toward the end of 2010 and realized I lost less hair when I finger combed my braidouts and combed through my leave-ins after shampooing.

Now, in 2011, I'm planning to do the hard proteins every six weeks to see if I retain more length to reach my short term goal. :yep: I always follow up my hard proteins with a moisturizing conditioner. ALWAYS.

I want to use a hard protein, but I just can't do the stinky Aphogee. Ugh. Are there any creamy type hard protein conditioners or even less stinky ones? What if I add the Aphogee into a creamy conditioner? I'm having a small amount of breakage, but I want to stop it before it gets bad. I use to use the Aphogee 2 minute once or twice a week and I know that is light protein, but I had no breakage and minimal shedding.

You used to? Why did you stop? And if you know something that works, why not go back to the devil you know instead of gambling on what you don't know?

I think people would have less setbacks if they stopped switching their regimens based on what others say. If I were you, I'd return to the light protein I used to use once or twice a week which gave me "no breakage and minimal shedding".
