Hard hair after flat ironing?

I airdried with Salerm 21 and CHI Silk Infusion in braids and when I took them out they were soooo soft and smooth feeling. When I flatironed my hair became hard- especially my new growth at my crown. Is it too hot? I keep it between 1 and 5 out of 30. Please help.

This happened to me. It was suggested that I clarify and that ended up working out for me. HTH!

Could have been dry..when you flat ironed you may have leeched out some of the moisture the Salerm and CHI put into your hair, and you don't mention that you sealed it with anything. Maybe clarify, airdry w/ products, and then seal and use a light heat protectant.

WOw! I am so glad I found this thread. This exact thing happened to me this morning, and it has been very discouraging for me all day. I thought it was the FHI flatiron and I was like damn..I spent all that money on this???:ohwell: But now I know that I just need to clarify!

I agree with the other posters...it sounds like there's too much product in your hair. Clarifying wiill probably work...just make sure you deep condition with a moisturizing conditioner because clarifying shampoos dry your hair out.

So glad I came in here. This is my hair all the time when I flat iron it. Not when the girl I get to do it does it. But I don't flat iron after my wash it usually a few days and a lot of product later. Now I know why. Thanks ladies!
