Handheld Blow Dryer on "Cool" - Yay or Nay?

nay because tryin to hold that lil button down makes my hand cramp up. if i had a dryer like nappyrina's i would definitely try it. ♥

I say, "Yay." I guess my thumb is a soldier. :lachen: :lachen:

I love blow drying on cool, especially when I don't have time to sit under my hooded dryer. It's actually the only way I will blow dry my hair. :yep:

Thanks ladies!! *blushing*

I got the idea from a combination of my fellow LHCF/Fotki divas! I declare, yall think of things I would never think of on my own :drunk:

It works and I encourage others to try it! .. it might not get your hair silky straight like when using heat but it definitely smooths & stretches it out a lot .. that's good enough for me

I blowdried my hair by myself for the first time since my hair journey and was so surprised that the tension mention really does work. I could do this more often and by myself yippee! If I wanted to braid my hair, the tension method is all I need.

I didn't try it on 'cool' but on high heat. I was going out that evening so ehem...a lil' straightening did a body guuuud...

I'm not convinced that using the blow dryer could cause long term damage if you are properly taking care of your hair in between such as the proper DC, moisture and protein treatments.

I would definitely have to say Nay too if I had to continue holding that COOL shot button down. The one time I did it I was cringing in pain by the time I was finished. I loved the results but I was on a mission to find a blow dryer w/ a COOL setting...even asked about it in a thread another member posted here & got some responses: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=105650

I wanted an inexpensive one w/ all the latest technology ...it took a while but I was so happy to find it eventually on Amazon.com .. I ordered several dryers to test and this one was the best so I returned the others with no problems... the Remington TStudio currently costs $39.99 w/ Free shipping http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EPHRO8/ref=oss_product .. much better than the $100 other dryers that have multiple heat settings

LOL..girl I dont know how you do it .. my thumb was sooo sore .. I was like this is cute but it's not worth all this pain :drunk:

Girl your hair is gorgeous...my goal length! I remember when you posted your blow out results ..FABulous!! I think if you tried it on COOL your results would be similar...it just might take a litle longer :spinning:

Doing it on COOL does take some patience....a little slower than using heat...but I was surprised how well it works with the Tension Method .. I guess any strong flow of air will do the job and there really is no need for using the comb/brush

I'm curious, has anyone ever gotten the same SILKY/FLOWING results from using the COOL setting and/or the Tension Method that they got from using heat and/or the comb/brush??

Thats not the result I was going for but I am curious...

That's why I love my FHI. When I push the cool shot button, it stays down by itself until I push it again. I'm so used to having to hold the cool shot button that I didn't understand that I didn't have to do that w/ the FHI at first.

i just wanted to rave about blow drying with the "cool shot" button held down real quick... My hair loves it! Tried it for the first time today and my hair came out MUCH softer than when i blow dry with hot air, plus almost no hair in the comb when i combed it out before flat ironing... I think this is a new part of my regimen, especially considering how surprised i was that it only added an extra 15 minutes to the normal time it takes to dry my hair.

Thanks to DarlingDiva I finally coolshot blowdried my hair today and its a big improvement over blowdrying it hot. I have a FHI dryer that I got before I decided to use low to no heat on my hair, and i thought it might have been a waste since it gets insanely hot. But thanks to this thread I tried it on cool and this will definitely work for me on flatironing days.

ETA: hey darlingDiva my flatiron results are the new April frame of my siggy :) It looked way better in person but much better, much smoother than blowdry heat followed by flatiron heat. Next time Im gonna try the cool with the concentrator nozzle to see if that speeds things up.

I like blow-drying my hair on the cool setting. Dries my hair faster than regular air drying, and I think it's less damaging than blow-drying with hot air. I just started using this method, and I won't be using heat protectant (my cool setting is slightly warmer than room temperature, but it doesn't burn the skin). I may have to invest in a blow-dryer that has an actual cool setting rather than just a cool shot. Makes my thumb ache.

You could always duct tape it down:look:- not that I knew anyone who did that or anything (works like a charm)

Girl, I thought I was crazy for thinking of this! :lachen: I got the thought and then dismissed it. I will take your advice. Good looking out :yep:. Sure beats having to buy a whole new blow-dryer just to use the cool setting :ohwell:. (names shall not be disclosed to protect the innocent :look:)
