Hey, hey hey!
I'm a newbie (if you haven't figured out already) lol
I will confess that I have been viewing this site as a non-member for sometime and finally decided to become official:grin:

I am so, so, so inspired by the work ethic that you ladies put into your hair . I'm just starting out my healthy hair journey and I NEVER in my life thought that I could have the gorgeous flowing locks that I have seen on this website; it is a real inspiration. I'm currently in college, and am ready to see how my hair will fare by the end of this semester. In fact, I am going to do my longest stretch EVER...next relaxer will be in two weeks for school and that will be my last relaxer for the 2010 year. I will then relax the second week of Jan 2011

This is going to be 20 wks were talking about; haha, ive really been preping myself for this.

And also to note, I have been recently getting my relaxers done at a stylist salon; I'm sorry mama, but you cannot touch up my hair anymore. I love my mom, but when it comes to hair I'd rather go to someone with a little more experience:grin:

I am hoping, and praying, and wishing, and just plain lucking out that I reach shoulder length or more by the 2011 relaxer. I am currently lower neck length. I have a babyliss flat iron that will not be used for a VERY, VERY, VERY long time and my andis styler dryer is def. one of the best $20 purchases that I have ever made.

But anyways, thank you girls (and guys) for welcoming me into your open arms. I see it as my personal duty to grow my hair long AND strong just to show you all that "I'm worth it." :):pepper::)

Hey there. You know that in theory, that "experienced" stylist may not be any better than your mom, right? Just saying, there are lots of crazy stories on LHCF about stylists who take too many liberties with scissors or have diarrhea of the mouth when it comes to expressing their unwanted opinions of what YOU should do with YOUR hair. Make sure it's someone who supports you on your healthy hair journey.

:)

Good luck with your stretch! We're here if you need anything.

Trust me, if you see the way my mother tackles hair you would change your mind :lachen: She herself has an almost buzz cut and when her hair was longer back in the day, she went to a stylist herself. Plus she's really heavy handed with the relaxer (and quite a busy lady), so when i told her i'd be going to a salon from now on, she was more than relieved

And oh yes, I always let my stylist know how much I hate trims and she respects that and doesn't take off more than.

And thanks for the wishes, I'll need all the help I can get :bouncy:

Hi,

Welcome and yes you will learn alot here. I just wanted to add before you go gung-ho with stretching, if you've never done one before go slowly so you dont get frustrated. If havent yet do as much research as you can for this, because it isnt for everyone. Also figure out how much NG you get by 8 weeks this will be a large determiner for how long you can stretch as well as.

Try not to jump on all bandwagons. What is good for one person with your texture and density may not work for you. Find something your hair likes and pretty much stick with that. Experimenting is fine just be careful. If you see a product you like, look on the site first, someone has probably done an extensive review.

Read these they are very helpful:
1. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=389082

2.sistaslick has wonderful online articles. Search her name, the links are under her signature.

3. YT is a great resource for stretching. I am going to plug Fgrogran.

4. all protien is not the same: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=401514

One last thing. Patience your hair is always growing try to focus on health first then length.

One more: save your favorites in a folder to refer back to. This has saved my life.

And the last: The search function is your friend, 9x out of 10 if you have a question it has already been asked and answered. This site has been up and running since 2003.
