Hairline/Edges?

Naturals - or anyone - how do you maintanin "Straight" edges when you flatiron/blowdry or wear your hair straight?? Any products or techniques used to maintain a sleek look?

If I needed my hairline to lay flat...I would apply some type of gel...wrap a scarf tightly around my hiarline and let it stay there for an hour or so...then the hair line should be smooth...maybe with a few waves in it...but evenly wavy.
