I don't know what is going on with my hair these days. I'm not doing any of the harmful stuff i.e curling irons, or any type of direct heat. I still do my deep cons and moisturize daily. I even sleep with a scarf. I drink plenty of water, I eat pretty healthy and I take a multi vit now and then. I recently finished a jar of amino acids because I thought that would fix the issue; but my hair is still breaking/shedding. ( yes, i checked for the white bulb at the end) So I am lost now because I don't know what to do to fix it. I don't relax 6-8 wks. I do 9-10 weeks max and that worked for me. Its been four weeks since the last touch up and there is about an inch of new growth. What now? I am going to cut a few inches off because I really hate the way it looks. Oh, yes I do protective styling ( updo's and such) Suggestions welcomed.

:(

If that's a recent shot of your hair in your avatar it looks fine too me. You think it may be time to do a reconstructer or protein treatment?, maybe too much moisture and it's time for a balance. When is the last time you did one?

The pic in my avatar is from Dec 06. I did a Sebastain penetraitt protein treatment last week, followed by humecto deep con.

Oh okay, it may just be time to take a look at the products you've been using and either eliminate something or switch products. I know there are alot of conditioners I don't use because they seem to make me shed more than what I usually do.

Try moisturizing every other day or every 3 days and see if that helps with the breakage. How often do you shampoo and DCin'?

I had the same problem although I'm natural, it's not as bad anymore.

I noticed a big turnaround when I did the avocado/egg treatment, I deep conditioned with a hot towel for a looooooooong time. And then recently I bought and started using Aveda Damage Remedy; after washing my hair didn't shed as much as usual.

I'm currently waiting for a moisturizer to add into the mix, so far I've been using anything w/glycerin and it's been okay. I have an order of avocado butter arriving Tuesday so I'll see how it goes.

Good luck

I use the Kera care line and I cut back on shampoing only once a week. I deep con now with each wash as well. I use to con wash but I stopped that too. I'll try the 3 day moisturizing and see.
I was so frustrated today that I went and bought a Chi iron and some scissors. I might put the pics up later in the gallery of the before and after. My first attempt at direct heat in three years....here goes nothing....

Tell me more about this avacado/egg treatment...

That is a lot of growth for a 4 week period. Is that normal for you?

Are you getting more because of growth aids, prehaps the amino acids?

I find that if my hair grows too fast, my hair just does not act right unless I am in braids or something. Average growth just may be better, I think.

But if that is your normal rate, that can't be it.

When was the last time that you clarified? Maybe your hair has product build-up that's preventing your conditioners and moisturizers from working.

wow, my mom had the pro silk conditioner but i threw it away when i was helping her get rid of her unused items.

:(

I know when I was getting alot of breakage, my new stylist noitce and showed me when I was wet that I was tex-lax and relax, so when I would detangle, I would have to take my time because it tagle from the relax to tex-lax part and I would get alot of shedding. Afterwards no matter what I did I would get alot of shedding.

So 2 weeks ago I had her do a corrective, and wow what a difference. No hair woes, I can detangle with no problem and normal shedding as far as I am concern almost no shedding.

I am not sure if you are relax or tex-lax but when they are mixed like mine it is not a good thing. I was tex-lax in 3 sections of my hair...

I agree about the rate of growth comment. Also, you may want to check your deep conditioner to see whether it contains protein. Your protein/moisture balance may be off. I used to do this and my hair got mushy and started to stretch.

Are you stressed? I know that can cause hair to shed a lot...but then you're talking about actual breakage. Sorry I don't have much info. to offer, but I hope you can figure out what the problem is.

Another thing that is telling me a corrective might be needed, I shed like no ones business, I am afraid that I might wake up with no hair, I like the fullness of my hair, however, I haven't had on good hair day yet!!!

Just started using Nexxus and my hair is acting better but no slickness, just dry, what I don't get, my hair is wonderful when it is wet, Just nice and full and soft and it then dries into a big old mess.

I want my hair staright most of the time and I thought when I texlaxed that it would be healthier, the thing is I think I am 50% texlaxed, I might have to get it staighter.

Can't wait to have one good hair day... I want to look like Krissyprissy sig pic with the roller set.

I think its a little more than my normal rate. Today a friend of mine looked at my roots, she is a stylist so I was eager to hear what she had to say. So i took my hair out of th ebun and showed her what was going on and the cut I gave myself on Sunday. Well she looked all over my hair and she found the culprit (if i can say that about hair) Apparently there are 2-3 different textures in my hiar at the momnet. The New growth, some that seems under processed and the rest is straight. She says that The relaxer that was used four weeks ago did not really straighten the hair. She showed me what she saw in the mirror. So I guess now i know why my hair is snapping off like this, now to figure out the right fix. She says I can do a corrective relaxer, but its only been four weeks since the last one....now what

I am not tex-laxed but yeah, found out that there are different textures in my hair that's causing all this breakage. So the recommendation I recevied was to do a corrective relaxer.

Don't know much about texlax but seems that its harder to work with different textures

Question? If I "texlaxed" my hair can I do whatever a corrective is or get one done by a stylist to either get more frizz out or just make it straight, because i'm not feelin it. It lloks good wet but it looks a mess dry, maybe I need some products (which is what I was trying to escape from!

I don't know much about texlax, you should repost this as a new thread so it can get more exposure from the texlax experts :)
