Hair stalking tempting me to relax!

So as I was waiting for the train this morning I noticed this lady with flowing, shinny,GORGEOUS color hair. She is at most shoulder length. But her hair swings and looks super healthy. I was drawn to sit behind her on the train so that I could keep staring at her hair (I am a surprise follower). As I sit there admiring her hair, I can't help thinking that my hair was NEveR that healthy when I had a relaxer, and that level of care while relaxed is beyond my abilities. Have any of you natural hair ladies been tempted early in your journey to relax? How did you overcome the temptation? I need a strong slap because I sure would like hair like that. I would take a picture to post here but the flash on my phone would give me away, and I really would be a stalker.

Sounds like it's time for you to stalk some fotkis instead. There are lots of natural ladies out there on fotki to inspire you :)

As for having wanting to relax...yes, as soon as I BC'd I wanted to. I overcame the temptation by learning more about my hair and learning how to care for it and what it could do that i could never do with relaxed hair

You can have that same look without a relaxer. There are many ladies on here that could show you...

Ok ladies where are you??? Whip those pics out!!

how do you know she was relaxed? because the people i see with straight hair with the most swang & shine are the naturals who flat-ironed or rollerset...most of the times their natual hair looks better straightened than it ever did relaxed.

I was only tempted while transitioning, but never again once I big chopped.

My rollerset natural hair is a million times prettier than my relaxed hair. You can peep my album. I'd post s picture but I can't since I'm on Tapatalk.

don't even go there! you will be so mad at yourself if you go back. you will be back at square one. you can do so much with your natural hair.

I definitely wanted to relax right after my BC. I tried to get an appt with my hairdresser to maybe get a texturizer, but thankfully she wasn't available to see me. So, I got a weave for 6 weeks instead, while I studied and learned as much about my hair and texture as possible. One of the best decisions I've made.

If you like the look of straight, "swangy" hair, I'd suggest you maybe get a straight weave for a while. That'll keep you from doing anything drastic (at least for a while), and I suspect, if you're like me, it may also reveal to you that maybe straight hair isn't all it's cracked up to be. I MUCH prefer kinky hair now lol.

Happy growing!

I had the same temptation OP just recently and was going to go back to the relaxer after I saw beautiful pics of my friend and her relaxed bob. Then I stalked some fotkis of beautiful natural heads, remembered how far I had come, and pictured myself with gorgeous APL rollerset or flat ironed hair and got rid of the fix, lol. But I am soooo glad I didn't go through with the relaxer and cut. In fact, just this morning Dh saw my hair out of my bun and said, "Beautiful hair!" That made me feel good. :)

When I feel like I should relax my hair I either flatiron my own hair (which I believe looks better than my relaxed hair days) or weave it up. Sometimes you just have to get it out your system and these are ways I do that.

I've been there! I still think about it sometime. :/
Now that I have a daughter, I don't think I'll ever relax until after she's older and I've instilled the self love that I think she needs (and healthy hair practices). That's my personal opinion.

My hair was healthy when it was relaxed, but it was never this long. For ME, the only way to have really long straight hair is to be natural and use heat to straighten.

You just got to use your options

I've never had that temptation because my relaxed hair was thin and flat, while my natural hair is thicker, stronger, and longer while flat ironed. Plus I was bored of wearing my hair in the same styles over and over and over while relaxed.

Like Iri said, she coulda been natural. And I agree with Liljoy - you can still have straight banging hair as a natural with a flat iron/press. Being natural is the best of both worlds to me. I can wear my hair straight and sleek but still enjoy my cottony curls and all the cute styles they offer too.

Bwahahahaha! :lachen: Touche!

Like the other ladies mentioned, use a flat iron or rollerset. Don't go through the pain of relaxing, missing your natural texture, transitioning and then end up natural to only end up going through it again.

Don't be insecure, girl! Own that texture! Work that swang!

me too:yep: except my relaxed hair did look better but that's only because I think I'm od'ing on the heat protectant...still tryna figure out how to get that swang like I see some naturals have

I don't even like straight hair on me! wtf???:lachen: her hair just looked sooo delish! when I had a relaxer, I would always be fighting with the hairdresser because she never made my hair curled like I wanted ( I am soo slow, use chemicals to STRAIGHTEN hair then fuss at hair dresser to CURL hair.... duhhhhhh :nono: I should have woken up along time ago.

True!!! forgive me I was suffering from extreme hair envy.

I had those moments where I wanted to, I still think I'm over it now. A good flat iron is all I need, as much as I could do with a relaxer, I got bored of it. I just know what I want for sure now, and if I ever (which is unlikely) change my mind radically I will do something about it. I encourage being natural, but if you know truly within yourself you want relaxed hair and its not a phase then you know what to do!

I was tempted a year ago, gave in and regretted it. I played around with it for a few months and then decided to start a re-transition in September. I'll be weaving up for the winter and bc in the summer. Tho I wanna see how far I could really go with my transition. I should've gotten a weave back then. :perplexed Don't give in. Get a weave or something. Or check out this thread http://www.longhaircareforum.com/ha...nyone-else-seen-tumblr-hair-porn-pitchas.html

I haven't had the urge to relax since I was 4 months post, but I do want straight hair every so often. For ME, a good Dominican blowout is enough to cure any straightening itch. Swang for days, and I can get my curls back whenever I miss them.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me, hearing stories of people who relaxed then regretted it will hopefully keep me away from the creamy crack.
