Hair moisturized New Growth Dry

Lately my hair has been acting horrible. I have to cut it back to my shoulders from APL ,but I'm ok with that I want it all to grow back healthy. But my problem is that the new growth is coming in very hard dry and brittle on the left and back part of my head. The rest of my hair is softer and much easier to manage, but half of my head is thicker puffier and a lot rougher than the the other side. Its also very resistant to relaxers.

My roots literally snap when combing, unless my hair is soaking wet. Coconut oil, EVOO, jojoba oil, nothing seems to be working.:cry3::cry3::cry3: The rest of my hair is normal but I don't want to keep pressing out my roots to straighten them or even get them just to lie flat! They are resistant to everything right now and just stay dry not matter what I do. I even baggy every night lately and although the rest of my hair loves it but my roots dont and that causes them to snap the relaxed part off - even with light manipulation. I tried a rollerset yesterday and that was an utter disaster with hair all over the bathroom. Its sooooo frustrating having black hair sometimes. I feel horrible because even though I love myself, and I know the Lord made me who I am sometimes I sit here wishing I had 3b hair which seems ssooooooo much easier to deal with. :(

But the grass is always greener on the other side right?

Anyone have any suggestions?

I drink 4 16.9 oz bottles of water daily, using women's once a day vitamins and organic flax seed oil supplement. No new meds or dieatary changes - I just don't get it.

First of all HUGS!! I used to have this problem!!

After you shampoo and condition, what leave in do you use? When your hair is wet, do you use a SUPER moisturizing leave-in with a nice heat protectant? I highly suggest Qhemet Biologics Sidr Tree Butter Balm as a leave.

Airdry your hair and then flatiron it. Your NG may not be totally flat, but that can be a good thing. But, it should be soft.

Like me, oils may not do it for you. But, I got a good outcome on my NG with Natural Oasis hair and scalp conditioner. I put some of that on my hair and scalp before I tied it down and it did a good job in giving me even more softness under there.

But, the key is my leave/airdry/flatiron routine.

Again, my NG is never totally flat which is fine because I am texlaxed. But it is very soft.

Thank you honeydew. I will definiately give that a try. Do you remember how long it lasted?

The leave in I use is Giovanni direct or salerm 21 I alternate on a monthly basis between the two. They both used to work very well, but not so much these past two months.

Its so frustrating!

I agree with HoneyDew, Sidr Tree Butter Balm is awesome.

Also, have you used a clarifying shampoo lately? You may have product buildup, which is making your hair feel dry.

It just sounds like your roots on half of your head didn't relax well. You sound underprocessed on one side of your head. If that's the case the next time you relax try to do a corrective on that side only.

If you're texlaxed on half of your head you need to treat those roots differently from the other half. I would really suggest blow drying instead of airdrying if you're wearing your hair straight. Why? Well when I was natural if I airdried my hair would look a hot mess. I'm just suggesting that you use the blow drying to straighten it out a little after detangling.

Definitely use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. Try not to manipulate your hair much until your next relaxer.

I hope this helps. :)

@ nikki - Yes, I'm in the 3 month baggy challenge so I'm currently baggying my whole head. Its helps the main part of my hair but not my new growth.

@ lana - I was beginning to think that myself.

Thanks ladies :)

I will have to try and get some. I'm just a little scared of the price incase my hair doesn't take to it. Does it smell?

Dunno know about you, but I tend to put more conditioner on my length than NG. Now, when I wash and condition I part my hair into 4 then split each section 2-3 times to make sure I get ALL my NG is coated w/ conditioner. :yep: I try to avoid my scalp, but I'm more concerned with making sure I've properly conditioned that NG.

What? The moisture? Girl, my hair is NEVER dry. I am not lying. I never have problems with my hair or NG being dry - if anything I have a problem overmoisturizing.

If you meant the flatironing - My NG always reverts a little the day of or after I flatiron. I just cannot get it totally bone straight and that okay for me. I think the key is keeping is soft and moisturized which seems to be your goal. :)

Sometimes, it is hard for me to get the leavein down to my roots with all the NG. Parting and applying the leave during those times seems to be better so that I can get down in there.

It has a very, very faint earthy smell in the jar, but I can't smell it at all once it's on my hair. And it may *look* expensive, but a little goes a very long way. Seriously. You only need a dab. I usually mix mine with my Giovanni Direct or with my daily moisturizer (if I'm using it on dry hair).

I am like you Sareca. I did not see you post before I did mine. Yeah, I have to part and apply when I have lots of NG. Otherwise it just doesn't get down there.

Even when I use my Fermodyl liquid leave in, I notice that I use 50% more when I have lots of NG. It's like the liquid get either soaked up faster or stuck down in the tangles.

No I meant the dryness, how long were you dealing with the dryness in the roots? Once you focused on it did it change, or did it last for a little while?

so true! One wet hair I always over do it. I think that is my I am chronically overmoisturized and have to up my protein.

Try using some conditioner just your roots as a pre-poo before you wash to get extra moisture to your new growth. Also, whenever my roots feel extra dry I carefully rub creme moisturizer just on the newgrowth, paying attention to get every inch covered and seal it with a heavier moisturizer. After I do that and wrap my hair up for the night, the moisturizer really soaks in and in the morning my hair feels much better.
