Hair is dry and breaking... what's missing!?!

HI all,
I need some serious advice. My hair is dry and breaking. I'm almost 4 months post and am currently bunning to decrease manipulation as much as possible... I usually wash my hair once a week with pantene relaxed and natural, use Aphogee 2 min reconstructor, followed by ORS... Do I need a better conditioner? or should alternate the weeks I use Aphogee... I know I need more moisture! What would you reccommend in terms of a great moisturizer? Is ORS enough? Someone please advise.. I can't take this breakage any longer! I'm ending this stretch next week, and will not go this long until I learn to combat this breakage :nono:. What should I do/add to my regimen?

I think your hair is breaking because it is double processed. You should try to get a grasp on the breakage before adding more chemical. Clarify your hair, follow with a moisturizing poo, a reconstructor or something stronger like aphoghee 2 step....following with a deep moisturizing conditioner. Add some leave in...Rusk Smoother, Lacio Lacio and Mizani thermal smooth and then rollerset. No direct heat would be good right through here. Good luck!

A great moisturizing poo would Nexxus Therappe or Mizani Moisturfusion Milk bath. Also Nexxus Humectress in a good moisturizing cond and Mizani Moisturfusion cond.

Your exactly right about the double processing... :( I've not did color since April 10' and the color is more in the top of my head... Do you think that Aphogee 2-step will be too much protein? Also I rarely use direct heat, maybe 2 monthly (especially while stretching this long!)

This may be a silly question, but is there a way to add a darker color/rinse over my highlights to decrease the breakage? or is growing out the color and trimming the only way to get rid of the color?!

I can't give you any advice on the color since I've never done it. ;)

However, be sure you are using a clarifying shampoo at least once a month to remove product buildup.

Are you moisturizing and sealing your ends daily? I use ors carrot oil and seal with evco. You don't have to protective style to retain length, but it wouldn't hurt for you to hide those delicate ends for a few weeks.

Do you cowash? If you do, choose moisturizing conditioners.

Aphogee and ORS are both protein! Sounds like you are suffering from protein overload! I would had more moisture Kenra moisturizing con or elucence mb con are good moisture deep con! I always follow up with a moisture con after using a protein con!

I do not moisturize and seal daily. I have just started co-washing but only once a week. Maybe I'll co-wash more during the week.

Thanks.. I guess I will alternate using Aphogee and ORS, then follow up with nexxus humectress conditioner.... Will this help?

Being double processed, I think the aphoghee 2 step is what you need. Because of the double processing, your hair could use the protein as well as moisture. Use the aphoghee protein and follow up with Nexxus Humectress for deep cond. My hair was damaged from chemical and color once and for 4 weeks straight my stylist performed protein treatments followed by deep conditioning. It really helped the health of my hair. I have never done permanent color since. As far as the rinse are concerned, they would be fine as long as they are ammonia free and peroxide free. To name a few, beautiful, jazzing, etc. They also contain conditioning giving the hair a little shine and moisture.

Yes this will help! Also since you're going to cowash once a week, I would deep condition with nexxus humcetress on that day! You dont have to moisturze and seal everday! only when your hair needs it! What do you moisturize with?

It sounds like you need to incorporate some moisturizing products into your regimen.

When you have color and a relaxer you need a balance of moisture and protein.

Here are some good name moisturizing DC products:
-Joico
-Elucence
-Hairveda stirinillah
-Kenra
-Ojon Ultra Hydrating

leave-in
Neutragena Triple Moisture

Oils to seal
-Coconut oil
-Jojoba oil

Since it seems you have a feeling that you may be using too much protein. Why don't you move away from protein conditioners and use moisturizing ones for a while to see if that makes a difference. Or at least use minimal protein in your regimen.

I may have misunderstood your posts, but are you using any moisturizer/ leave-in in your regimen at all? In other words, once you've rinsed your hair out, do you put anything in your hair that you leave in and is supposed to have a moisturizing benefit to your hair?

@Kamilla16 - how did your hair do today?

It did wonderful!!! (If your referring to my relaxer) lol! I moisturized with Nexxus Humectress and noticed a big difference!

I put in Creme of Nature leave-in conditioner after I use the Aphogee 2 min and DC with ORS... I plan to alternate the ORS and Aphogee and then follow up with Nexxus for conditioning... I also will co-wash once during the week, with V05 moisture milks.

Sounds like you need more moisture in your regimen. My hair's coloured and highlighted and I use the strong aphogee (2 step) every 6-8 weeks I wouldn't use it more frequently than that-guaranteed breakage. I alternate moisture DCs (SKALA) with protein (APhogee 2 minute) -but always rinse of with a moisturising conditioner Aussie Moist.

Yes you need more protein than others without but you need to maintain your moisture balance.
