I just started using Organics best olive oil for dry hair and scalp therapy. I only used it once so the verdict is still out. I was craving grease for a while now and my scalp is the itchiest thing around. Its creamy and light...I didnt need anything heavy in this H-town heat. I always have to apply something on my scalp at least once a week or it becomes too flaky.

During retouches, I rarely use vaseline to base my scalp for retouches. Now I just use a conditioner on hair and scalp

I don't use grease. Every blue moon, i use Boundless Tresses. But that's about it as far as greasing my scalp goes.

When i started coming here I used B & B super grow. I really liked it... I don't remember why since that was like 2004/2005. But I later found out that some of its ingredients are cancerous. I posted an article in this forum sometime ago... 2005 or 2006 if you're interested in looking for it. My stylist actually emailed the article to me at the time.

I don't use anything now. No need to. I cringe at the idea of it on my scalp.

I voted none. I have had the same issues as other's mentioned-at times i do "crave" using grease or oil on my scalp. I used to have dry scalp that flaked ever so lightly, but when I stopped using grease on it, it went away. I also think it had a lot to do with infrequent washing-like every 2 weeks. But, with all that hair I had at the time, it took too much to do it more often than that. This was before I learned about CW's and mastered air-drying. I would rollerset my whole head of MBL hair and wrap it (after shampooing and dc'ing). Start to finish it took nearly 4 hours. :-(

I used to grease my scalp religiously with either Sulfur 8 or BB Super Gro, but its too heavy for my taste now. I'll use Softee Pure Coconut Oil or Wild Growth Oil every blue moon, but mainly I use nothing. I just apply Vatika or Amla oil to my hair.

Does Hairveda almond glaze count as "grease?" I use it on my damp hair for braidouts, but not on my scalp.

Yes, she calls it natural hair grease.

I am a hair grease lover :lick:. It is possible to get hair grease without mineral oil or petrolatum in them--buy from natural vendors. I put it on my scalp and the length of my hair.

My faves:
Hairveda's Almond Glaze
Qhemet's Amla Oil Nourishing Pomade
Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey
Karess Krafter's Hemp Hairdressing

Butters that I use to grease my hair:
Hairveda's Green Tea Herbal Butter
Qhemet's Amla & Olive Heavy Cream
Afoveda's Totally Twisted Ginger Hair Butter
Njoi's Creations Coconut Hair Butter

I use to be a greaseaholic !:lachen: I used doo gro, blue magic, glover's mane, sulfur 8... to name a few. My scalp constantly had grease on it. I stopped using grease when I heard someone say that it clogs the pores of the scalp. So I didn't use anything on my scalp for about 8 years I had a growth spurt after that but I had little retention because my hair was dry and breaking. when I found LHCF I discovered coconut oil and my hair loves it. It moisturized my hair and scalp , I don't think I'll ever go back to grease, it never did anything for my hair anyway.

I can't remember the last time I used grease, it was probably in middle school when I didn't know anything about the bad side effects of mineral oil/petroleum, sulfates and cones. Anyhow, I only oil my scalp and I do that sparingly seeing as though I get seborrhea dermatitis a lot, and I use vatika oil, coconut oil, and avocado oils.

I don't use grease anymore. I put jojoba oil on my scalp, after I get a relaxer. Cause my scalp be so dry and itchy. However after my first wash im good. Then I stop using the jojoba oil as well.

A Looooooooonnnnngggg time ago I used Virgin Hair Fertilizer, it was great grew my hair and kept dandruff away, i think they changed formulations.

FFWD I abandoned it for MTG, then a variety of oil mixes usually sulphur based and then most of this year I just stopped using anything at all and I'm still growing the same (I think) with a nice clean breathable scalp.

I don't use "grease" any more. But I do apply something to my scalp. I use Surge Ultra Max. Only because its a growth aid. It has no mineral oil or petroleum in it. If not for that I would only apply oil to my scalp.

I use castor oil with peppermint a few times a week when I notice my scalp feels dry. I'm in the sun a lot and it dries me out.

So I noticed that some of you wonderful ladies do use hair grease and some do not.

I'm addicted to it. I love Ultra Sheen and Silk Elements.

For the users: I'm wondering which one do you use and how often?

If you stopped using it, why and what did you replace it with? Are the results better?

Every now and then, Posner's Bergamot. Nothing like it in all the big, wide world!!! But I never apply to scalp, it's more a frizz tamer. If you get dry scalp unless you oil it, stop for awhile, put nothing on it, massage vigorously but gently 15 min. nightly. In 2 weeks or so, your scalp should start adjusting to it's own sebum production.

i use Shea Butter Plus by Africas Best and Horsetailand Rosemary Wax by africas best sometimes when i rollerset i use Wonder max gro lanloin and bees wax

I used to use grease, but they made my hair even dryer. So I started to experiment with different creams. Now I know that putting the grease on my hair kept moisture out and kept it dry.

I haven't used grease in YEARS. Back in the days we were on that green Dax jar in my house :nono:

I use coconut oil, castor oil, or kemi oyl now.

I don't use grease. If my hair or scalp needs moisture I cowash. The winter is coming to NYC though, so I may be upping the ante.

Black Dax. One me every blue moon, on the kids I use it all the time. Also use Glovers (the stank one) on my scalp. Plus I mix it in the Dax. lol

I use grease and mix it with my Bee Mine for my scalp.:yep: When I stopped using grease, my hair didn't thrive. I have no issues with clogged scalp because I wash my hair once a week. It eases my itchies, too. When I BC, I will start using a little sulfur 8 with the Bee Mine on my scalp. It also seems to aid my hair growth.

I actually never use it on my scalp. Just my ends and work up to about 6- inches from my scalp.

I have tried the coconut oil from India but it makes my hair feel really hard and dry. So I'm back to Silk Elements.

I do have that issue of dry scalp after shampooing though and I only shampoo about once every ten days. I have been using the coconut oil for the scalp after shampoo but I am not sure if it is really helpful or not because I still itch. I don't mind the itching too much since its mild plus scratching gets the blood flowing on the scalp which helps with growth.

I can't use hair grease because it always make my hair dry and brittle. Sulfur 8, Bronner Brothers, Blue Magic, Indian Hemp, Ultra Sheen, African Pride, Doo Gro, Ginseng, Bald-no-more, etc... I tried some of everything and my scalp and hair hates it so I ditch the grease.

my mum used to grease my scalp with johnsons and johnsons baby vaseline mind you she also washed my hair with johnsons and johnsons baby poo and con LOL but my hair did thrive perhaps cause it was always braided up in either cornrows or threaded. Anyhoo that grease made my scalp tight and dry so much that I developed some sort of scabs on my scalp :(.

I use coconut oil or aloe vera gel on my scalp now about once a week. The aloe is so soothing and cooling, and the coconut oil is just yummy and they both leave absolutely no residue

I don't use grease anymore...Now that i don't my scalp is not dry anymore, and no more dandruff. I had used Soft and Beautiful 3 n 1 Dry Scalp Treatment. When ever i feel the need to put anything on my scalp i use a mixture of extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and peppermint oil.

Unfortunately, I do not use any of the hair greases that were mentioned so I was unable to vote in the poll.

I use Dax Organic Oils Supergro, although it contains petrolatum, the main ingredients are natural oils and the grease is very light (the kind that will dislolve into your skin if left for a few minutes). I've been using it for 17 yrs on and off, I use it once a week now on shampoo day

I've also used Le Klair Supa Gro light formula and Kera Kare hair grease and find them similar as none of them are heavy
