So I noticed that some of you wonderful ladies do use hair grease and some do not.

I'm addicted to it. I love Ultra Sheen and Silk Elements.

For the users: I'm wondering which one do you use and how often?

If you stopped using it, why and what did you replace it with? Are the results better?

i use coconut oil on my scalp now. i use it when it's partially solidified. i like it better than not applying anything at all, which is what i've been doing for the past 2 years. it soothes my scalp, and somehow makes it easier for me to comb through my new growth on wash day.

i wouldn't use a petrolatum / mineral oil grease, though. no matter how i use them, they cause my hairs to feel weirdly coated & sticky, & makes my scalp feel too greasy.

I dont use grease in my hair any longer. However, when I did I bought whatever was the cheapest...lol

I haven't used grease on my hair since middle school or freshman year of high school. My mom used to grease my dry flaky scalp. I was too lazy to continue it so I just stopped; I didn't know anything about healthy hair care. Now my scalp is never white like it used to be when she didn't grease it regularly. I use water to moisturize (it is the ultimate moisturizer right? :p I haven't had any problems when it comes to dry scalp. My hair still has sheen & my scalp is not nearly as itchy as it used to be. Grease be gone! Hair thou art loosed!

In regards to my hair, I use oils & butters sparingly; only to seal in the moisture. Grease is too heavy for my hair.

There is only one hair dress I will use on my scalp and that’s Dark & Lovely's Naturally Honey Kissed Hair Dress (melts like butter to the touch and smells great) and its light.

I stopped using heavy grease because of the mineral oil and petroleum. Also I am natural and normally wear my hair in a bun and don't touch it. Taking my hair down and parting it into sections would result in a co-wash since it will afro out. So I just use an application bottle with a nose tip and stick it down in my hair and squeeze the oil out on my scalp.

i haven't used grease in over a year..probably closer to two years and I stopped cold turkey without replacing it with anything. surprisingly, I haven't had any issues with dry scalp/dandruff like I did when I was getting relaxers.
I do need to probably look at my scalp more carefully because in June when I got my hair pressed, my grandmother commented that my scalp was dry and needed some grease but as for the flakes, itchiness and irritation I got when I went without grease during my relaxed days- I haven't had to deal with those issues in a long time!

Boundless Tresses Hair Revitalizing Balm..... 3 or 4 times per week on the scalp only (not for my hair). Its castor oil, coconut oil, peppermint EO, & sulfur. Gosh...I love that stuff!!!

Another Hairveda Almond Glaze user and loving it. I smoot/scrunch in a generous fingerful after detangling in the shower, right over my conditioner, then cold water rinse. Some of the glaze stays on my hair and I proceed to style. Also use castor oil the same way.

I use Doo Gro grease, I have eczema in my scalp so I have to put something on it, and Doo Gro is the only one ive found so far that works the best at keeping my scalp moisturized. my scalp soaks it up pretty quickly so I dont really have to worry about buildup.

i try to get whatever product I'm using on my hair to my scalp...
i like lightly putting my new QHEMET on my scalp!!! it is niiiice!
i stopped with the grease in college cuz i noticed that my scalp pores were getting clogged and on top of that being an athlete my sweat mixed with it and broke me out all over...
no grease, no zits

gross...not alot of ladies use grease because of the mineral oil and petroleum content in them. it keeps moisture out of the hair making it dry and brittle

I live in a nearly no humidity climate and the hair grease seals the moisture in with our 100+ summer days. I have no breakage even with flat iron use (stopped completely about 6 weeks ago trying to get to my goal first). I don't have too many split ends either.

(I have a SIL always looking for them :ohwell: )

The TCB with olive oil made me break out. My hubby loves it though.

I started this thread because I wonder if I really need to use it and if I did stop what could I replace it with. I always thought it was good for dry hair. It wasn't till I came here that I saw a different opinion.

Thanks for responding everyone. You have given me a good list to start with. I look forward to hearing from more people.

I really like Hairveda's Almond Glaze and Dr. Miracle's brand (this isn't really grease though, it's more like a cream dressing)

I Use Claudie's Pomade Or Njoicreations Herbal Hairdressing. Happy Hair Growing!
Both Are Very Healthy For Your Scalp

I don't use grease anymore. Haven't done so in years, but I used to love the blue majic coconut grease. One thing I noticed when I did use grease was that my hair did not frizz up in humidity. Did anyone else notice this?

I do, that's why I plan on using some on, along w/ Fantasia IC Heat Protectant serum when I flatiron in about 2 weeks.

I no longer use grease on my scalp, though, b/c it really did clog my pores. I don't use it on my hair, either, except when I plan on flat-ironing. Since I flat-iron so infrequently, the jar of Almond Glaze & the two jars of CD Mimosa Hair Honey will last me a very long time.

You know that makes since. I may buy a some blue magic again and use it only on my ends when I wear my hair straight to keep it from frizzing (although that won't be until Dec since I'm hiding my hair). I hate to put in all the work of roller setting and wrapping then then poof frizz:wallbash: I will try that and see how I like it only and also get me some Sabino and see how I like that too.

I got the poof frizz situation when I used V05 Miracle Mist & Fantasia IC serum the last time I flatironed.

Stopped using grease on my scalp soon after I started my HHJ last year. Replaced it with jojoba-based oil mixes in little spray bottles - spray a little oil all over my scalp and follow up with a scalp massage, or EVCO. I think now I'd only use grease to seal after moisturising if I had no other choice.

I chose one of the ones from the poll that I have used. However, I use nothing directly on my scalp. I do use groganics hair growin wild on my DD when I braid her hair. It keeps the braids together very nicely. Her hair is really soft and would otherwise unravel.

I stopped greasing when I joined LHCF, and found my hair to be softer, my scalp to be less itchy/flaky, and I'm never going back!
But If i had to I guess I would use something light like avocado/jojoba oil...
