I went to see a stylist that had been recommended by a few ppl on the board and my hair is in the worst shape EVER.
Is it normal for a rinse to leave black dye in your hair and on your scalp to the point where its obvious and if you run your hands through they look like youve been playing with ashes?
Also I was persuaded to try a chemical treatment different from what I asked for (my stupidty) but is it sensible to not base my virgin scalp, I now have burns all over (wound that hurt) ......
and when I told her that I wasnt happy with the hair she basically said "at least its better than the mess you came in with"...oh and lets not forget that this experience cost me over 150 bucks. Im a bit ashamed to say I cried over it but I guess I have to move on.

Wow! Did you pay by CC so you can cancel the payment? I'm not interested in knowing who it was cause I do my own hair but I think you should post who it is so others who go to salons can know. I'm sorry this happenened to you.
ETA:
Also I would rewash immediately with neutralizing shampoo and that will take care of any relaxer that may be on you head and get rid of excess color.

You have got to be kidding me!!!! I can't believe she was that unprofessional...wait I can. Some have no darn shame.

What kind of chemical treatment did she talk you into????

No, I don't think it's normal for a rinse to leave black dye on your scalp. Colored girls please chime in.

Do me a favor and please wash and deep condition your hair ASAP. Baby your scalp with some aloe vera gel and be careful in handling until you heal.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

ITA w/ the advice given. It is not normal to have black dye all over your hands. She obviously did not rinse well enough. Give your hair a GOOD washing.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! I wouldn't have paid her especially after she said "its better than the mess you came in with" ! That would have sealed the deal for me. The only suggestion I can make is to shampoo you hair and scalp with a rich, moisturizing shampoo and that should take out some of the rinse she so obviously left in your hair.

Try a little aloe vera on your burns. Maybe you could call and talk to the owner of the salon and let him/her know the situation.

HTH

I am so sorry to hear what happened to you  . You need to put that sytlist on BLAST!!!!!!

Naughee, I'm so sorry for your bad hair experience.

I can say that I get a sebastian rinse about every 8 or 9 weeks. Sometimes my stylist is careful, I get no staining, but other times, like now, I have red (think coolaid) all over my scalp. What makes it worse is that I sweat a lot and the color ends up on my clothes.

I have been only letting her add the rinse to my crown, not to the nape and this has helped with the staining, but will do nothing for my red scalp.

As for the burned scalp...I'm just so very sorry :(

I'm sooooo sorry that happened to you. :cry3: The nerve of some stylist?? And there is a saying called "Word of Mouth" It can make you or break you. She really should've thought of this before she became so unprofessional. But what she really should've done was a strand test on your hair (since you had virgin hair). :)
As was metioned earlier by the other sistas, wash your hair out with a moisturizing shampoo and do a good deep conditioning to bring the structure back to your hair. I was in your same situation as far as the coloring and I remember washing my hair with a really good moisturizing shampoo (CON) and a deep conditioning (DNL Ultra Cholesterol).

I hope this helps you.

Thanks so much ladies...I will definitely be putting her on blast. Im going to call her and let her know what is going on; I was at the salon for about 5 hours and she had more than one customer at a time so thats probably why she was careless, Ive been so upset and I wasnt sure if I should call and complain but I decided I will call after I get off work. I will let you know how it goes...btw it was the wave nouveau; which imo is basically a jerry curl and no offense if anyone likes it but my hair looked very limp a la michael jackson with straight strands hanging; and its sheddding so Im a bit scared cos I dont know what to do with it (I did a roller set so it looks ok now but still feels very dry). Honestly I know its my fault for listening to her esp since I have never seen anyone with the process and I didnt know what it would look like. What I do fault her for is her careless treatment--the burns, the dye all over etc. I really dont have much faith stylists anymore

You should definitely call her up!!!

I am sorry to hear about this Naughteegirl. As for the color on your scalp from the rinse. That does happen from time to time if one isn't careful not to get it on the scalp, which is often difficult. It will go away after a few shampoos. Actually, the next time you shampoo, most of it should be gone. I usually take a few q-tips that I dip in alcohol to get the excess color off the scalp. I know there are products such as Un-color that are developed to get the excess color off the scalp, try that.

I am too through with that stylist being rude to you, that was uncalled for. I would not have paid her, but that's neither here nor there. To deal with the scalp burns, mix some type of oil (jojoba or castor) with tea tree oil and use that to rub on the burns.

Oh god...this chick is wrong on so many levels I dont even know where to begin. I'm sorry for the experience that you had hopefully you can just grow it out and cut it off. It just sounds like whatever she did to your hair was wrong all the way around. Hope you feel better soon  -- jainygirl

That is just disgusting!!!!!! I hope you get some sort of compensation from the salon!

I'm growing out a W/N and my advice is to keep it well moisturized. I found soft'n'free activator very good, although i'm not sure if it's stocked in the USA.

Good luck.

Naughteegirl, I'm also really sorry that the stylist you visited was so horrible. Please follow the advice that everyone gave; wash your hair again with a neutralizing shampoo and do a protein and moisturizing conditioner up the wazoo. How dare she talk to you that way?!

Would you feel comfortable sharing with us the name of this imcompetent b**** and the salon where she works? She shouldn't have the benefit of anyone else's business. Or, at least, if ladies here do decide to visit her, they can make an informed choice based on your post. Good stylists are hard enough to find, and avoiding the idiots is top priority. I live in NY, and I know for sure I won't patronize anyone who's careless AND rude, and tries to make me feel bad about my hair. Perhaps the salon would be interested in knowing how their stylists treat customers.

Girl, I feel you. The same exact thing happened to me. The best way to get revenge is never go back to her. I'm sorry to hear about yr horror story. My stylist did the same thing to me when I got my w/n retouched. Now, thanks to her, my hair is overprocessed. I think they should concentrate on one customer at a time instead of trying to stlye the Joneses. Greedy Biach....pardon my french... ;-D I hope all goes well and hope u don't remain traumatized....

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience but I would like to add that sometimes rinses do leave color in your scalp that you can see. However, I don't know if it should be all over your hands, but sometimes it remains. I know it remained in my hair and around my hairline for 1 wash, and even if you look at popular black hair magazines such as Sophisticate's Black Hair Magazine you will see some of the models with red, orange, or whatever color in their scalp or around their head.

Thanks everyone and missyoli I had expected some residue but I thought it was excessive and it easily come off when I touched my hair so I think another rinsing would have gotten more off. I'll update you guys, I have spoken to her and she was very apologetic, Im going in to show her and her boss my hair later this week. Thanks again for the tips evryone

You should put some Bacitracin (I think that's how its spelled) on your scalp. I was burned badly once and even though I made an appointment to see the dermatologist i put some of that ointment on my burns and it helped a lot.

Please let us know the name of the stylist so we'll know to stay away. Thanks.

NO more Stylists..yeah one of my missions for this year is to be able to do evrything myself. Ive learnt so much and learn evryday...

sorry it took a while to update evryone, its been very busy. I went back to Cherie at house of hair, brooklyn on thursday and she and her boss suggested that the shedding and flaky scalp was due to my sensitive/dry scalp and possibly the fact that I hadn't had any chemicals near my hair in about a year. My problem with the theory is that I told her I hadnt had any checmical processes (hence the high price) so I belive she should have taken pecautions or at least mentioned the possibility if this is indeed normal for some ppl. Anyways they cut my hair (Im thinking its now 2 inches or less) and deep conditioned it for me at no extra charge and recommended I return for a deep conditioner evry two weeks. All in all I was much happier with the short hair cos even though its still shedding its been much less and it looked healthy and full as opposed to stringy before. I will keep conditioning et al and I might even go back there for conditioning treatments because although the first experience was really bad, Cherie was very nice, took responsibility for the situation and tried to resolve it; she had to stay late to see me because I work a bit late.
Thanks again for all the tips and words of advice...my main goal now is to keep it misturized and stop the shedding..also grow out the WN.

I am so sorry this happened to you. :( But I guess it's best to start fresh than to baby the damaged hair that will have to be cut anyway.

This sounds like bs to me. A WN can only be applied to chemical free hair. :ohwell: Or maybe she was implying that you had scab hair (relaxer residue?). I'm guessing she didn't do a strand test...

Again, I'm sorry this happened.

Update:

I have a nice bald spot...right now I put kinky braids in, I dont like them so Ill take them out soon but it looks like Ill be forced to do a BC (edit: not a bd but a chop since I cut a lot of ti already anyways) this spring..oh well I know now that I can do my hair better myself than a whole lot of stylists so thats the way forward.

I'm sorry to hear that all of this happened to you and really sorry to hear that you have a bald spot now.

Also, that virgin hair thing for your sores is BS if you ask me.

Thanks, msk ur hair is really pretty in that picture...Im happy I have lhcf to make it through..btw Im on the lookout for nice wigs.lol

My heart really hurts for what you had to go through. :nono:

I hope that after you BC, things will go a lot better this time around! Hang in there!

Thanks!
Im talking to the owner because I requested a refund..the shedding has not stopped or lessened even with the hair cut...I need some help though, could you please tell me how you would describe the thinning hair? I have pictures in my fotki the password is in my sig. I really want to go see a dermatlogist but Im in audit and right now we're working crazy hrs and eat lunch together so I havent had the time.

Im sorry to hear what happend to you. I agree with everyone else, that you need to shampoo and condition your hair. When i use to go to the salon they would shampoo my hair again to get rid of the excess color. I started doing my own rinse at home and save that $15.00. An at home rinse is very easy to do, maybe next time u can do you own (just get a cup or bowl and mix the rinse with some conditioner, put a plastic cap on and sit under the dryer for 20 mins). The color looks so much nicer when u add the conditioner.

Say it with me, ladies: "No more stylists!"
Sorry to hear about this naughteegirl. Boy, when I read the title of this thread, I just knew that a stylist had to be involved.
