HAIR CARE MINIMALISTS

i go to the salon weekly so she does everything for me. Thinking about going every two weeks now that I have these awesome spin pins for buns BUT I use:

shampoo: hair one olive oil
conditioner: africas best hair mayonnaise and lacio lacio as leave in
moisture: jane carter solutions nourish and shine

That's it!

When I first joined the board i had bought entirely too many products and nothing was working so I went back to what I was doing when my hair was healthier and longer and now it's a lot cheaper.

I'm hair lazy, I straighten my hair and try to make it last as long as possible.. Shampoo and DC every 7-10 days. "Moisturize" my hair with KBB Butter love once in awhile... comb hair down and wrap it back up at night

Shampoo: Suave Shea butter and almond
conditioner: Suave Shea butter and almond or Lustrasilk (only DC conditioner I have)
protein treatment: Egg + Suave
Heat protector: Chi Silk infusion
leave in: HE LTR + Chi keratin

This is similar to me, I realised I have been on the treadmill of hair growth for seven years, hovering ten inches from waist length and then chopping. Or getting into a new fad. So I chose my best routine with a few additions that I knew my hair liked. I am going to stick to it for a year.

Wash with nexxus shampoo
Hard protein emergencee
Moisturing dc humectress
Air dry
Flat iron with heat protectant.
Moisturise with watery leave in and coconut oil.
Protective style.
My hair loves this and I have almost six months of new growth, but it works so I am sticking to it.

Got splinters from hanging on to all those bandwagons lol.

Wash and DC every 3-4 weeks: Kera Care Moisturizing shampoo, Humecto conditioner. Occasionally I use Yes to Carrots if Im bored.

Protein: Not too often but I use the Kera Care Super reconstructor on the same day I wash my hair. Pricey but someone gave it to me.

every 2-3 days: Comb and apply hollywood beauty castor and mink oil hairdress to ends.

BillsBackerz67
you comb your hair every 2/3 days o_o ?

I'm becoming a minimalist :)

Cowash 2x a week
DC 1x week
Moisturize as need
Poo (if itchy)

Poo - CV Bars / BWC Rosemary Mint
COwash - VO5 / GTTT
RO - Vo5 Moisturizing
DC - AOHSR or AOGPB
LI - Gio Direct or Whipped Shea Butter with Grapeseed oil
Scalp Care - Olive Oil with tea tree & lavendar

I have totally adopted the minimalist method.

My products are
Henna - rajasthani
Condition - Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee or Curls Coconut Curlage
DC - Matcha Green Tea (etsy) or Beau-ti-ful
Clay wash - Rhasoul Clay Wash (etsy) or I make it myself with any clay like bentonite or pink or rassoul
Leave in- CJ Beauticulrs or blue roze wild cherry leave in or kinky curly
Gel: Uncle Funky's daughter or curl spiration (etsy)

I don't use shampoo at all. Mainly either I use conditioner or a clay wash between every 3-5 days. Then I add leave in which is about 50% water and 50% leave in then add gel. Sometimes I style it in a bun, sometimes I wear it out but it is always in its natural state. Now that I leave it alone without straightening or manipulating it I no longer have to detangle. Once it gets wet the curls slide apart. At night if it feels dry I usually spritz it with water and baggy. I don't DC often maybe once every six weeks. I do henna once a month which consists of henna and coconut milk and I leave that on my hair for about 3 hours or I go to bed. The most time consuming thing for me is trimming. In the past I have had someone else do it but I needed to save money so now I do it usually around every six weeks with the hunt and destroy method.

I have been doing this for the past year, my hair is growing well I plan to keep track this year. But I love it my entire routine takes about 20 minutes, 30 if I cannot get my bun to lay right. Days where I sweat a lot at the gym I just rinse it an add a little more gel and we are back in business. Super easy.

Totally encouraging.

I am soooooooooo oveeeeeeeeer all this drama over my semi-new natural hair.

I'm EVER trying to minimize.

Right now I've got it here:

1. Clarify as needed: Shea Moisture Clear Start Shampoo (professional line)
1. If I need a shampoo but don't need to clarify: Any of the myriad shampoos I purchased while trying to figure out my hair
2. Deep condition and finger detangle in shower: Shea Moisture High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque
3. Leave-in conditioner: Giovanni Direct Leave-in (apply it in four sections, pull through hair, place head under water for a split-second to help the leave-in disperse more thoroughly and sink in)
4. Style: EITHER Shea Moisture High Porosity Styling Gel . . . OR KCKT leave-in alone . . . OR KCKT leave-in plus KCCC

Sometimes I'll add a head band and sometimes I'll just shape it.

Nighttime: Bonnet.

That's it.

My hair is feeling pretty elastic. I do miss the length and look of the two-strand twists I used to do/try, but for now I'm just happy it's growing healthily and undamaged.

@mysblossom hang in there :)
LOL @ the shampoo

The best thing for me was the realization that I did not have to have knots. I always had them so I thought it was normal than low and behold I figured out the wash and go and wohoo no knots. One day I had an event so I did a two strand twist I had knots everywhere.

I also figure out technique made a bigger difference than product. like raking pulls my hair out but using prayer hands gets rid of shed hair without breakage. Applying a bit of water after I apply my gel and shaking makes it look much better and removes the excess so my hair dries faster and a softer gel cast.

I feel my product usage and routine is fairly minimalist. I don't really use combs other than my rat tail and tend to only style my hair while wet, mainly on wash day. Wash day has either three or four steps (excluding my light detangle before washing)

Step 1:
Varies. Mainly I either water rinse or condition (w/ AOWC, AOHSR, KCKT, Mill Creek Botanical Jojoba). Rarely step 1 will be ACV rinse or shampoo (diluted Giovanni Invigorating Tea Tree Tingle).

Step 2: (Sometimes omitted)
Homemade clay mix (rhassoul+calcium bentointe/ sodium bentonite) with other goodies. I thoroughly detangle during application.

Step 3:
Oil rinse in the shower once I've rinsed the clay and let water run on my hair for a bit. My staple oils for this are grapeseed and wheatgerm and sunflower oil for my ends.

Step 4:
Style my hair with diluted KCCC and leave alone for what ends up being about 4 days, before I wet it again.

I like it. This sounds good.

How does one do an oil rinse?

Minimalist Checking In:

- wash/protein/DC/retwist every 2 to 3 weeks
- non-wash and just retwist every 1 to 2 weeks
- DC ends only 1x a week (no washing, just slap the dc on for 15 min, rinse it out, throw the hair back in a bun)
- moisturize as needed (I've fallen in to this habit and it's working)
- most of the time hair is in some kind of bun or braid
- Dust or trim every 6 months

Products - Wash Day
- Komaza Pona Scalp treatment (15 min)
- CV Shampoo Bars (10 min)
- Komaza Protein Treatment (15 min)
- Jessicurl Deep Treatment (1 hr)
- QB Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee (to remove shed hair and retwist after its dry. I air dry in a bun and am able to go about my business while its drying)

Products - moisturize days
- QB Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee OR
- Bobeam Condish diluted in a spray bottle and then seal with either
  • Bekura sevenfold or
  • A Rosemary Oil and Extra Virgin Coconut Oil Mix or
  • MHC Type 4 Hair Creme
Products - Smoother:
  • Bekura Java Bean & Honey Balm when I need to lay hair down or some gel.

That's really it. I have other products that I really like but don't really use them that much. These are my mainstays...the things I find myself just grabbing. My PJ days are coming to an end...

Thanks, it's working for me so I'm not changing a thing.

I've read that some heat their oils but I just pour in my hand and apply it (grapeseed and/ or wheatgerm) to my length- my hair is separated into 4 sections. I dip my ends in sunflower oil (held in the palm of my hand) and will usually shower (taking advantage of the steam) while I let it soak in. Then I will run my head under the shower again before I get out. I try not to rinse it all out.

Do you use the same method with wheat germ oil? That stuff is funkkaay! I haven't opened my bottle in a year. Lol

 I kind of like the smell of (my) wheatgerm oil. I hadn't used any in a while, then that ceramides thread reminded me and I pulled it out yesterday. Yes, my method is exactly the same.

Wow you are the real MVP! Wheat germ smells worse than MTG and Neem to me. Lol I should just stick to oil blends and hemp seed and try your method.

I don't really have a regimen as a natural now. I wash my hair 2-3x a week. Lately I've real lazy though, so it's been once a week. don't have a particular shampoo/conditioner. I use whatever is available. That has been Suave Coconut right now. I wear my hair in twists and twist outs. I straighten my hair once a year or every 2 years. I do and Inversion session 1x per month.

Another minimalist checking in.

Kaloin clay + goats milk + rinse out condition weeks 1-3.
(Komaza) Shampoo + Komaza protein + rinse out conditioner on the 4th week.
Spritz (Water + Giovanni Direct Leave-In) + moisturize daily.
AVJ + water rinse after washing when I remember.

Intermittently, water rinse + spritz + moisturize

I wash my hair weekly with Cream of Nature extra body shampoo, dc with a Kerastase mask and use Garnier Sleek and shine cream as a leave in.

I wash, condition and do everything in braids. Once partially dry I detangle and rebraid. When I want straight hair I go to a Kerastase or Dominican salon. I can straighten my own hair, but it never has the same body and softness.

Minimalist!

Henna 2x a month
Full pre-poo plus wash routine 1x a week
Optional midweek cowash if hair is dry or itchy, otherwise I skip it.

Prepoo:
Whatever ceramides and EOs are in the pantry to mix together

Shampoos:
1 clarifying and exfoliating shampoo (nioxin)
1 sulfate free shampoo (Shea moisture brand)

DC
SSI okra reconstructor
Usually AIA hydration elation or a vatika dc) for moisture

Cowash
Whatever is available. Mostly V05 (using up the last in stash), SSI or AIA (forever staples)

Styling
AIA smoothing gel
SSI leave in
Another oil from pantry

Twist out, braid out or tuck n roll

The end.

Hurray! A thread for me. Minimalist here:

1. Shampoo:

SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo

2. Conditioner:
SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Shine Conditioner (I don't DC)

3. Moisturizer:
SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus Style Milk + Oil

4. Protein:

ApHogee 2 Step

Regimen:
In an ideal world I wash/condition weekly and apply moisturizer when the hair is nearly air dry. I use the protein treatment every 6 months. My hair is currently in marley twists, so I will combine the moisturizer with olive oil or coconut oil and water to spritz on my hair daily.

Comment:
It took me years to figure out my holy grail products, but it was worth it! I had to learn that what works as a TWA does not necessarily work at BSL! :)

Emergencies:
If I'm having a tangled hair emergency my go-to is Africa's Best Kids Organics Hair Lotion. If I leave a style in too long and it starts to knot together I reach for this.

I tried a grape seed oil rinse following your method. I applied Giovanni Direct Leave-in and KCCC afterwards.

So far on day one and two, awesooooooooooome! :headspin:

:flowers:

Many thanks, @AbsyBlvd.

I would say my routine is minimal, however my products are not even though I try to keep them to 15 or less.... key word is TRY. Besides, I love every single one I use and they all serve a particular purpose. There was a time when I only used 5 or 6 products...my hair responded the same as it does now with using a few more. The only difference is before I was so bored with my hair product life. lol Shooooot, I need a lil excitement if I'm gonna do this Thang for the long haul.

Routine: I wash & roller set every week. Midweek, I moisturize. Simple.
