Hair and sun protection.

Hello all!

I was wondering if the sun could do serious damage to hair and what kind of damage could occur?

I'm not a huge hat wearer but are there products/oils i can use to protect my hair from the oh so evil sun?:look:(if needed)

I tried doing a search but didnt get much info with the words i typed in.

TIA:grin:

The sun can be very drying on the hair. It also can bleach the hair, I have had a blond hairline in the past. There are products with sunscreen in them. I cant give any names, but I know they exist. Go to Google - and type in UV sun protection for hair.

The sun dries my hair. I just try to make sure that I keep the sun-highlighted area moisturized. the dryness isn't that bad so i haven't researched any additional products.

Sun damage on hair? I hope not cause I am truelly loving the highlights that I have from the sun!

I can relate. My hair turns a very light-medium brown color in the summer. I sorta like it!!!!

Can't give anyadvise though OP as I have no clue. :ohwell:

Thank you. I'll try to google some and see what comes up. Does anyone know what ingredients would be the UV sun protection in a product??

I know! I'm starting to have people asking if i dyed my hair:perplexed lol(every summer!! lol) i was wondering if the change of color was damaging (long term)

I too have a red-brownish tint due to the sun and I like it. NTM silk touch leave in contains UV filters, according to the bottle.

The sun is a heat source, so it could of course dry your hair out. I also like the highlights I get in the summer though. I read somewhere (i cant remember where, i may try to find it) the sunscreen in hair products doesn't really work, it's more of a marketing ploy, because sunscreen only works if the entire surface of whatever you are trying to protect is covered, and it is really hard to completely cover all of your hair with a product.

[edit:] couldnt find the article i was talking about but this is a good article abut sun and hair damage. http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip027.htm

I use Matrix Biolage Sunsorials Protective Hair Oil. I ordered it off of Ebay and got one bottle free. It protects the hair from sun, pool, and sea water.
