GUESS WHat Ladies... Haitian Huile Masketi, Red Palm Oil...and yup Ojon are

Thank you for posting the heads up, not only did I purchase the OJON a couple of weeks ago while on QVC...but recieved the product and was shocked in two ways.

First: The entire demonstration shows video from the Tribe and land that the product was supposedly harvested from. However upon arrival, I read the label for the ingredients, it lists 100% American Palm Oil. Am I crazy or are they marketing this as something from the rainforest regions of a long lost tribe of people with "beautiful Hair".


Second: This product smells like I have spent 24 hours in a smoke filled casino. It is a combination of burnt coffee, cigarettes and cheap male cologne.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Puritan Pride Red Palm Oil becuase I am certainly going to try that and save the price spent on any future purchases of OJON or I as I now call it O-Please.

My parents are haitian and growing up my mom used to use that stuff for everything! Like you said CCD it is for EVERYTHING! My mom used to mix it with my hair grease all the time she still uses it till this day. Everytime someone goes back to Haiti someone brings her a big bottle of it! I mean BIG!..lol She never runs out! I haven't used it in my hair in years! Maybe I should start using it again..lol I'm new to this board by the way...hello everyone! =o)

I know right :lol: Everything will be cured, but that is one of them qualities of them Honduran Ojon, those people are said tom use it for everything

I think someone should start a red palm oil challenge! I bought ojon from qvc because my hair was breaking and extremely dry during the winter. I'm not sure what I think about ojon yet, but I don't care for the smell. I am still having major problems with my hair, even after cutting off all of the dead ends.
 
I am sorry to hear about that Isis.....I hope Ojon starts to work for you, maybe you can use it along with other things like Castor oil maybe as a daily conditioner ( I found Hollywoods Castor and it is not greasy to me...doesn't weigh down my hair...but my hair is rather thick

Girl you are not lying about the smell! It does smell like cigarettes, it filled the bathroom and I swear it stayed in my towels and robe for days...

About the American Palm Oil as an ingredient: I noticed this too, but then I started thinking we're not the only America. So I'm assuming it could be American as in South America/Latin America?!? But I don't really know...
 
Yeah, Ojon is out of my budget, at least the deep conditioning stuff so Im gonna get on the red palm oil . . . Oh, isn't it funny how folks think they have "discovered" something when they bring it to the masses even though natives have been using it for centuries? LOL
 
That should not shock you about the "discovery crap!"...they claim to have discovered America, and erryotherplace...I guess the "Natives" must have discovered it later (Snicker and Snort and Streups!!!!) Obviously they never worked!... Just went around discoverin'!...Guess that's why they needed "other people to do the work....double streups!!!! ...so they could go "DISCOVERIN!!!...suprise suprise....lol Bonjour
 
Yeah, it's not really shocking to me, I just kinda roll my eyes when I hear it over and over . . . It's just amusing (um, sort of) when you read abt Ojon its always full of raves abt his "discovery" when really, the word discovery should be substituted with "mass market", hehe. And to be truthful, I wasn't real impressed with this product when I bought it- I feel like my money could have been better spent on something else.
 
uhm, just to note that i dont knwo if the red plam oil is the exact same thing as Lwil masketi because the lwil is real thick, definitely not of the consistency of cooking oil. but it prolly is the same active inggredient so who knows.

the cooking oil I'm pretty sure diluted compared to the Haitian version...just my opinion though
 
Real red palm oil comes in many grades. It can come extremely thick. The kind that I am used to can be thicker than crisco. So, does anyone know where to get the Haitian oil? I am not impressed with people trying to sell me "American Palm Oil" for $55! :lachen:

I don't know for sure but I think places that are heavily populated with Haitians...maybe Brooklyn or Queens. Hopeful someone here knows for sure...
The haitian oil is pretty thick but not as thick as crisco....its a liquid and the smell is a little different but not as bad as Ojon to me. HTH
 
I mentioned earlier in this thread that my family is from west africa (liberia, ghana, nigeria) and I visit one of these countries almost every year my entire life - was in Liberia last fall and intend to go back this october and I been using red palm oil all my life (to eat, NEVER for hair or skin -- yuck!) and keep it by the gallons in my home 'cause when I find the good stuff, I stock up. Having intimate knowledge of red palm oil, I am not even tempted to use on my skin or hair 'cause the stuff is really messy, but REALLY delicious . . .

I mentioned this tread to my mother who is Liberian and Ghanain and knows palm oil 'cause she's the best darn cooker of West African food, period -- we both just burst out laughing, with tears and everything, it's too funny!!

Anywho, red palm oil smell is most definitely *exotic* and requires getting use to for those not grown up around this stuff . . . Most local tropical food stores, particularly African or Islander ones will stock alot because palm oil is such a stable in our diet -- various sizes from 8oz for approximately $10 to larger quantities). In my experience, red palm oil isn't really a "light oil" -- indeed, depending on how it is strained during preparation, it can be very very thick to the point where it "hardens" when cold (sorta like crisco) and must be heated to liquefy. There are various "grades" of palm oil, with the highest quality being on the lighter side . . . HTH

Thanks. Have you noticed a difference between the results that you have experienced with the huile Masketi and the Ojon or it has been the same?
 
Tryin....I have not personally used Ojon .....I have used Hiule Masketi as a child, not in the way Ojon is recommended either. Back in the day, mom use to use this as a hair dressing...and braided the hair afterwards....

I only researched Ojon on another website and saw the comparison....
 
To the ladies that are using palm oil, please be careful. This oils stains like no other and it is pretty hard to remove. I'm currently using Oxy Clean to remove some of it. Fortunately my scarf was the only thing that was badly stained and it is a royal blue color.

Are you Haitian? Could you ask you relatives where it ( L huile Masketi) comes from?
 
I used the Ojon yesterday and was not impressed. Thank heavens I only used samples as I would have been mighty heated if I had paid $55 for that Ish. I think that really it should be sold for $3 at the most. I am going to go back to using my coconut oil and wheat germ oil and other oils that I have in the house. They have done right by me so far. Thanks to those who warned about the stains from the Palm oil. I will be leaving that for cooking and even then only on special occassions, LOL! :lachen:...
 
Ojon isn't impressing me either. I was really excited about it too! It smells exactly like heavy incense. Since I paid 55 dollars for it (you can get it on QVC from $42) I melt it and add it to different hair oil cocktails that I make. I use it only in the evening on my hair and use the MTG on my scalp because they both don't smell that pleasant. But I can't say anything significant came from it. We should have known it wouldn't work for us when 1 and 2 hairtypes use OIL in their hair and rave about it!!!
