Yesterday, I washed it using yucca root and a mix of herbs that I'd previously made for an oil infusion. I added fresh AVG in hopes to thicken it and give it some slip. That did not happen, but I think that the AVG was a good addition.
What is AGV?

It's been VERY cold and dry here and in the house. I can't figure out how to increase the humidity on my humidifier, but checking it yesterday, it looks like water is getting into it. For context, they were expecting temps to drop to -30C (-22F) with wind last night. I feel dry and crispy. Anyway, I brought out my clothes steamer to try to steam my LCO products into my hair. I've never done this before. The product lineup was my DIY hair lotion + beef tallow whipped with glycerine. I opened each of the twists individually and took my time distributing my products through out my hair. This is something that I need to work on this year, because I usually just slap it on and call it a day.
I posted yesterday that I think the heating could be having an affect on my hair. I have a dehumidifier in my basement, but I may invest in a humidifier for the ground and first floors (I think this would be 1st and 2nd floors in US).

I had great results last week by making the effort to distribute the products evenly and smoothing the hair between my palms. This is something I want to continue to build on, as I believe that it has made a positive difference to my frizz.

  • For February, wear my hair in loose twists since I plan to do the Capillary Schedule 3 days a week for a month. That's a lot of washing, so I want to be able to access my hair better.
  • I want to experiment with prepooing my hair during this time and frequency, to see if my hair can stay detangled. I guess in a way it's going to be a bit like an oil washing routine.
  • I'll use the month to see how my hair likes loose twists. I might even experiment with wearing my hair in one braid without twisting to see how that works out.
  • I'll stop doing any or all of these if I see that it's not benefitting my hair.
How did last month go, did you notice any difference to frizz after the Capillary schedule?

I'm getting back into oils and HOTs, and I'm loving it, I enjoy blending, infusing and the actual process of using them.

will start washing my hair weekly. I also enjoy doing hot oil treatments with evoo.

I will also start the process of cutting my heat damage after Easter, during my next salon visit. I've been getting flat twists done & I'm on a no heat journey as well

Checking in for month 3 and Q1!

This month, I walked back two changes I made in February--that is, using detangling tools, and styling in flat twists. I've been finger detangling (and really taking my time) and styling in 12-14 plaits. When I go through my hairballs, I have very little breakage, and almost all of it comes from when I need to cut out ssks.

I'm feeling confident in my routine. I use Pantene's Daily Moisture Renewal shampoo & conditioner, Seht's all purpose conditioner as a leave-in, and The Doux's Bonita Afro Balm as a styler. My hair stays moisturized enough for me to dry detangle on wash day and that's all I really need.

Life has gotten significantly busier for me, and I've fallen off of my daily gym routine as a result. I only made it to the gym 12/29 days. I miss it. One of my goals for this year is to work up a sweat every day. So I bought an at-home treadmill with a desk, and my new goal is to walk 12 miles everyday, 2-2.5mph, 1 hour at a time, while I'm working on my computer. If I don't get sweaty enough, I'll throw in a short HIIT workout, or a short session on my stepper after I finish up for the day.

Wrt to wash frequency, I've been playing it by ear. One week I washed 2x, one week I washed 3x, two weeks I washed 4x. The only hard and fast rules I have are that 1) I don't go longer than 3 days, because I don't remoisturize in between wash days and 2) that if the sweat starts to make my scalp itch, I have to wash either that day or the next.

I've retained 8.3cm/3.26in this quarter and 2.3cm/0.8in this month. And I'm officially CBL! I still have my fingers crossed that I see that 3.5cm/month happen again! Here's to hoping that I'll see 1inch+ next month, when I'll be on top of my exercise regimen and not breaking my hair off with mechanical damage.

All in all, I'm very happy with my progress thus far. It's looking like I'll be APL or at least grazing it by the end of next month!

Congratulations on your growth, it's unfortunate that you've had to cut back on your workouts, especially as its something you seem to enjoy. The treadmill maybe a good compromise, and I hope it works out for you. Would you be able to send me a DM please @i4ani ?

AVG - Aloe vera gel

I'm not sure where you're located, or if it's possible for you to do, but a house humidifier which attaches to your furnace might be a long term investment. This will help with hair, skin, breathing, etc.

I will be honest, it's really hard for me to determine if my hair is "frizzy" or not. I wear my hair in twists about 99% of the time. Also, because I don't actually "comb" my hair, the level at which I'm able to tame my hair isn't that high.

So, by the time the month was over, my staying power with the schedule multiple times during the week just wasn't there. My hair wants to be wet that often, but I don't have a way to successfully remove shed hair unless I manipulate it and take it out. My hair gets more defined the more I manipulate it in the water, but in some ways I think that this could lead to breakage. However, if I was consistent with it, I don't think that it would lead to as much breakage as I would think...but I'd also be using a lot of water. So many trade offs just to go back to wearing my hair in twists.

(Copied from the Luscious Healthy Ends thread)

I needed to trim my hair. More than a micro trim. I hadn't used my "regular" trimming method of putting my hair in mini twists then cutting off the final inch, in some time. My ends were getting a bit raggidy.

But here's the thing. So roads...good intentions...

I washed my hair last week in jumbo twists with the idea of being able to keep my hair moisturized long enough to install a set of twists. This now takes me 3 to 4 days. Well, the washing process caused some major tangles and matting at my roots. The knots ended up causing breakage or I was forced to snip a lot of them out. I also took a day's break, which caused my hair to dry out more.

Normally, I just twist my hair with water then moisturize and seal when everything is done, but this time I used a glycerine heavy glycerine/water mix. I think that the glycerine added a bit of slip. My hair is now in mini twists and feeling so soft...and my ends are now feeling so much better!

20260406_215225.jpg

I plan on keeping these in until mid- to end of next month. I want to break them down into micro twists after, but I've never done my hair that small, so I'm a bit apprehensive. We'll see.

(Added a new pic for this thread)

So this isn't a length check photo, but I thought that I'd put a picture of my hair as it looks now. Actually, this is just before I trimmed my hair on Monday. I was too tired to take the after photo, but just know that the trimmed ends from the photo above, are what I cut off.

Oh yes, of course lol.

I would have to get a mobile unit, I have a dehumidifier, I'd like a 2 in 1 air purifier and humidifier. I mentioned in another thread that I thought the heating was having a negative impact on my hair and frizz.

Got it! The heating, especially when I jacked it up in winter made/makes my house too dry. This past winter the humidifier stopped working. I really hated how my skin felt. I'm sure that my hair also suffered a little.

It's definitely worth having, I will start shopping around. I've always suspected that the heating is affecting my hair, this will make a difference. I also want to install a mains water filter, I think that will be a game changer as I live in a hard water area. I have a lot to figure out before I get it, I need to work out the best place to put it and I'm short on options. I the meantime, I might purchase a filtered shower head just to see if I notice a difference.

Checking in for month 4 and hohhhhhhhh boy.

I’m too scared to do a length check this month, yall.

I wanted to get my summer hairstyle locked, loaded, and perfected this month but I experimented too close to the sun. And I have/had product build up from using a moisturizing shampoo without rotating a clarifying one in

Also, life has been life-ing to the max for me. It’s a definite positive for me career wise, but I’m so much busier than I have been in so long. I’m spending today at the drawing board (a new Notion set up) to come up with a new system to ensure that I’m hitting my non-negotiables every day (vitamin, exercise, water intake, leafy greens, etc) bc I have absolutely not done that this month.

My pile of hairballs is a sight to behold this month. I had a tangled nightmare a few weeks ago after trying to wear my fro out that resulted in the biggest hairball I’ve had in recent memory. And I didn’t learn my lesson; I tried another fro w another method, w essentially the same result. THEN I tried a wash n go. I don’t even wanna talk about it. However, I think my silicone build up played a major part in all of that. I threw out 2 of the hairballs bc they hurt my feelings soooo bad. For the morbidly curious, these are the hairballs. Pardon the cat hair, my babies are curious lol:

IMG_7553.jpeg

I’m realizing that every month I say I’m gonna stick to xyz, then a week later, I’m in the bathroom playing reindeer games with my hair. No mas.

I’m doing something new (for me) with shampoo. I just bought some Matrix products from Amazon (they’re running a 2 for $28 deal on Amazon, I couldn’t resist). I’m gonna try their Curl Can Dream clarifying shampoo, Food for Soft hydrating shampoo and conditioner, and then I’m going to use my Seht all purpose conditioner as a leave in and see how my hair fares with that wash day routine. I’m gonna style my hair in 6 flat twists and once they get fuzzy, I’ll wear a scarf or hat out on top.

I won’t adjust ANYTHING at ALL until May and that’s ONLY IF something is going wrong.

Here’s to a better update come the end of May. I hope yall had better hair months than I did!

:spinning: :spinning::spinning:

It's probably not as bad as you're thinking it is, you've probably still had some growth this month too. Personally, I would still do the length check even if you decide not to share it. It will basically document this aspect of your journey, what you did and how it has affected your hair. That's invaluable information.
Also, life has been life-ing to the max for me. It’s a definite positive for me career wise, but I’m so much busier than I have been in so long. Congratulations on moving forward in your career. It's going to take a little time to settle in and create a rhythm and routine that balances your work/home life balance, but it'll happen for you I'm sure. You've been very dedicated to your current regimen, you've been consistent with your nutrition and exercise for all but one month. Things may not pan out how they have been going so far but you've had an important learning curve, which will be important when identifying set backs and even potential setbacks.

It doesn't seem like your hair likes being in an afro. Maybe that could change as it grows.

I was wondering further up in your post about the build up you mentioned, I was initially looking at that from my perspective but I get it now. Does you hair need cones? Have you tried minimising or completely omitting cones? I have a few conditioners Ilove that have cones in them, I don't use them often, outside of that I don't use cones.

Despite using oils and butters I never have product build up and usuallyonly use a clarifying shampoo once per month, I use a hydrating shampoo when I feel I need it. I've been using shampoo bi-weekly since I started the bi-weekly overnight oil prepoo. Recently I've been shampooing weekly and intend to do fir the next 2 weeks before going back to bi-weekly.
I was expecting a lot worse  I do however understand how devastating it can feel, especially when you've put in the work.
I’m realizing that every month I say I’m gonna stick to xyz, then a week later, I’m in the bathroom playing reindeer games with my hair. No mas.
Again, I highly recommend you document EVERYTHING! Those days you be up in the bathroom playing reindeer games, there's knowledge to be gained and lessons to be learnt. This is how you can get to truly know and understand your hair.

The first time I journaled a hair journey it made such a huge difference to my hair game. It allowed me to pinpoint down to isolated ingredients that affected my hair in a particular way. I learned my hair's exact likes and dislikes, and knew what not to do, what to avoid and what would feed my hair with goodness.

I also built my current regimen based on my previous ones but I've omitted what I feel is unnecessary, I was able to do this by relying heavily on my old HHJ.

Well, you've probably figured I'm a sucker for a bargain if it's on my wishlist

That sounds like a solid plan while you get back on track.

True. And my mom’s already expecting me and my blue turtleneck anyway. I’m more so afraid to know than to share. I’m thinking I might just have my mom take the photo, save it to my album, and I won’t look until June lololol. I’ll have bounced back by then and I’ll share it here.

I was looking for pics to illustrate the difference I noticed and actually, the collage you made for me shows it well.

I added the February check in one to show that I was still rockin n rollin at that point (I switched from no silicones to silicones the second Sunday of February) but by the end of March, my hair was dull and frizzed up. My length check days are always the day after wash day, so my hair looking like that at that point should have been red flag numero uno.

Also my coils were basically indiscernible even when dripping wet, right out of the shower. My kitchen and edges were starting to get stiff and knotty. You can see it here. The first one is a day 2 wash n go from January, the second is a day 2 wash n go from my Incident two weeks ago.

I didn’t have build up when I used butters either. I used to dip my head in liquified shea butter and go about my merry way and my hair ate it up. The only reason I stopped was bc I was ruining everything I owned with butter stains :(

I think the problem is that the shampoo deposits dimethicone (albeit a relatively small amount; it’s ingredient 13 of 22) with each wash, and at a 2-3x and sometimes even 4 wash per week frequency, I was rapidly creating build up. Last year, I used Aussie’s miracle moist line for about a month (that shampoo also deposits dimethicone and dimethiconol), but at that point I was washing 2x a month, so it would have taken a lot longer for buildup to appear, if any at all.

That said, there’s always the chance that I’m misdiagnosing :scratchchin: The only major change I’ve made since January was the February shift from Seht haircare’s sulfate and silicone free shampoo and conditioner line to Pantene’s Daily Moisture Renewal which is sulphate and silicone city, and after doing a lil digging on what can happen if you play w cones without a silicone-free cleanser I THINK (and hope) I’ve caught the culprit.

But only time can tell, me thinks.

I like my current wash frequency more because I don’t have itchiness or flakes on my scalp and (except for this month’s shenanigans and last month’s roughness), detangling isn’t super taxing like it was when I was washing 2x a month.

(Edit: The real answer may be to just bite the bullet on having to use too much of Seht’s shampoo and conditioner. But we shall see what the half-off Matrix I’m hoarding has in store for me.)
I was expecting a lot worse  I do however understand how devastating it can feel, especially when you've put in the work.
I agree that objectively it’s not a lot, bc my hairballs used to be so much bigger before I locked in on a routine. But yeah, it’s more so my disappointment bc I know my hair’s seen better days than anything else lol.
Again, I highly recommend you document EVERYTHING! Those days you be up in the bathroom playing reindeer games, there's knowledge to be gained and lessons to be learnt. This is how you can get to truly know and understand your hair.
I do have a hair calendar and I track all of my hullabaloo and hootenanny. That’s why I have more events in that one than my work calendar :giggle:

Take some notes on what you used/did and how it affected your hair, that photo will definitely hold a lot of information even if you don't look at it for now, your May length check will also tell you a lot too.

If they don't work for you, ditch them. When looking for products, you know what your hair doesn't like.

I'm pretty sure the products uou mentioned have cones in them, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's why I haven't tried them.

I can so relate to that. My hair balls were huge for a long time, I've managed to reduce them, but compared to now, there was a time when I lost hardly any hair on wash day.

Oh I've definitely made up for it ! I haven't stopped, I almost bought some things today, I refused to pay full price and the promotion has finished.

I've heard so many good things about the Food for spots, I'm happy for those who it works for. I just generally stay away from products with certain ingredients in that's all.

Thank you again! I always appreciate how kind and thoughtful your messages are.

Your hair! OMG! It's so thick and the baby coils! I LOVE it!!!

I'm here for the reindeer games, the hullabaloo, AND the hootenanny-ing!
