Good News About Wheat Germ Oil

Wheat germ oil contains tocotrienols (as well as tocopherols). Tocotrienols are rare isomers of vitamin E found in very few foods.

Like tocopherols, the more common forms, there are four tocotrienols: alpha tocotrienol, beta tocotrienol, delta tocotrienol, and gamma tocotrienol.

Tocotrienols are alleged to be stronger antioxidants than tocopherols.

There's also another group of vitamin E called tocomonoenols, but the research on it so far is sparse.

Thanks Op.. and don't let it go to waste,,esp. if you add oils to DC's or anything like that. I love adding it to my DC's, such as ORS hair mayonaisse, which already has some wheat germ oil in it. Love it, I add more paprika to that DC too.

Is wheat germ oil an edible oil? I already sometime take a spoonful or two of hempseed oil a day but maybe this is another good oil to have.

Wheat Germ oil is the best...
It fills in the holes in the follicles. Just beware that it can become heavy and require a clarifyer to cleanse...

^^^ Yes it is ingestible...
Jus don't heat it. It breaks down the make up.

Yay! This is great news because my favorite leave in conditoner is Silk Dreams Wheat Germ Butter! That stuff is awesome.

I think wheat germ oil smells quite horrid and tastes even worse but my hair loves that stuff.

I stan for WGO:yep: I use it as the base in my oil blend that I use for DC's and daily oil rinses. If I had to choose only 1 oil it would be WGO despite it's smell:look:

How does wheat germ oil compare to castor oil. Is it as good as or similar?

Both are quite heavy. I use them for different things:

WGO is high in ceramides so this is used in my pre-poo Deep Con.

Castor oil I add to my after-poo Deep Con. Tried this the first time just two weeks ago and it's a definite keeper :yep:!

I just purchased some wheat germ oil last week, I use it as a pre-poo. I'm gonna start putting some on my eyelashes every night.

I love this oil, its my baby daddy of oils. When I run out of my other ceramide I will go back to WGO.

Wheat germ oil is my favorite for oil rinsing, pre-pooing and finger detangling. I don't seal with it as I prefer avocado oil/butter. I am acne prone but don't have issues with it.

Where do you purchas yours from? I am looking it up on Ebay, but prefer to get it from a local store.

I got mine from a natural health store in Elephant and Castle called Baldwin and co.
I got the largest bottle but I'm not gonna get it from there again because on the bottle it says do not take internally. So I don't think the quality is the best. I'm going to search for an edible one after.

Curious. Why do you prefer this one over CO?
My Friend
I loved castor oil for moisture but there was no real place for it in my reggie. I haven't used it in about a year.
The only reason I picked up wheatgerm oil is use to use it as a prepoo. I always have breakage during washing so I need to add strength to it before hand. It's also got a good amount of ceramides which improves the condition of hair over time.
That's the same reason I'm trying it in my eyelashes.
Castor oil has barely and protein and no ceramides. It's just strictly moisture.

Where do you get wheat germ oil? Does it need to be unrefined? What else can you do with it. I'm satisfied w/my oils, but this is one I've wanted to try for a while.

Op thanks for this thread since ive taken my wgo out of hiding ive been using it (mixed with coconut oil) and loving It:)

@claud-uk @melissa-bee divachyk and others, How do you use wheat germ oil as a pre-poo? Do you blend it w/aloe vera juice or some slather it on wet hair? Is wheat germ oil supposed to be refrigerated. My bottle says to refrigerate-- but is there a version that doesn't need refrigeration?

virtuenow - I use Now Foods WGO. OMG, I've had this about 5 months and I never thought to read the back of the bottle where it says to refrigerate :perplexed... maybe I'm the last person you should ask advice from lol.

It's a really thick oil, perfect for a pre-poo. I always mix it with a moisturizing cholesterol. The thickness stops it dripping and ensures that not too many of the ceramide benefits are washed out during the poo process. I always pre-poo on dry hair, wrap with saran and leave on overnight. It's probably not necessary to leave on for that long though - 3 hours should be sufficient.

I use 1 part WGO to 3 parts cholesterol. HTH.

virtuenow I just put it on my dry hair and try and leave it on for half or more. I put something like a towel on my head to help it penetrate.
I don't need to refrigerate mine.

I use it during my prepoo/DC process. Last week, I mixed it with my GBP and really liked the results from that.
